Yeah normally I love to hear the hard beats, but I was getting worried the beats were waay too hard for Markus! He NEVER plays that hard...especially for the beginning of a set, you know he would've wanted to start it slow. Interesting to hear that he had the reaction I thought he would. :gsmile:
But I'm glad things turned out the way they did. Netraver I agree with you 100%. |

I really don't think his set suffered, after 5 hours and 1/2 keeping people jumping all over the place, even Armin last time haven't played so long ( about 4h )... I really thing the mission was successfully completed by Markus. It was the time for many of them to go home and for the others cooling down a bit. Don't forget that too !
Believe me Markus was still reading the crowd at this time.
The other side of the medal, don't forget that Insomnia have is own crowd in Montreal which is follow her and was there for her much more than for Markus. People who knows her, expect that she will give them the same quality set and performed better than ever. The only thing that I can say, Insomnia don't play "boom" as usual, she let the door open for Markus do to it, from the playlist of Markus seen on this post, much of the tracks could be played by her and she didn't do it. And even with that, the sound selection was excellent like many peoples said.
However, even she retained herself to lauched "boom" on the dancefloor and control the crowd for Markus, she cannot changes totaly her style ... her style it's what Insomnia represent ... like every djs ... She was just more than perfect to started this night, and like you said "jumping on the flow of the warm-up djs is a must" ... Completed Mission for Insomnia too !!!
My 2 cents. |
Agreed, i think it must have been hard for him not to have a closing dj then...cause its not the headliners job to "cool down" the crowd. All im saying is that the last hour or 2 he suffered cause he wasnt planning to play hard from the beginning, and because of that he couldnt play hard the whole set, but overall he was very good, just the end i think he lost it a bit, cause the cowrd wasnt jumping up and down around at 9.30....he was playing very soft.
And Armin isnt known to play really hard like he did at Stereo, trance djs will change up their style when in different venues/cities, same night Armin was at Guv in T.O and he didnt play has hard like he did at Stereo....almost any dj (trance) will play hard when hes in Stereo.
Markus did a very good overall set and alot of people were happy
So..
Bring him back! :D |

Light78 : Well, thanx ! Even Markus agree after 3 hours he started that it was a good call from Insomnia to bring the crowd at this point and he changes is mind regarding what he told Maher Daniel and I.
Everybody was expecting a slow started from him, which is not necessary good at 4h30, the party is already started at this time and the vibe must grow up from this point and not started over from the beginning again with a slow starts. I'm glad to see you supporting my points ! Really ! :D

Markus and Armin had never played before at Stereo ... How they know how to play ?? Hard, not hard ... I agree at 100% with you Armin don't play Hard in Toronto same thing for Markus in his gig before probably ....Why both of them played that style in Stereo ??? They had a chat together you thing before regarding Stereo Nightclub !?
NOT REALLY ! Armin follow Wizz tempo and Markus did exactly the same thing after Insomnia. Because Wizz and Insomnia knows what the crowd wants and that's why both party have been a success story. Otherwise I don't think both party have a awesome result like that.
That's why we had a blast night like that. :)

LOL yes they called each other up and said OMG UR PLAYING AT STEREO TOO!! YA PLAY HARD!!!
(im kidding Netraver):D
Armin played hard that night yes because Wizz was playing a little on the hard side but because he like other djs know that Stereo has one of the best soundsystem in the world! They want to compliment their style according to where they are. You think Armin went that hard completly because of Wizz? Im sure Wizz influenced him but they dont 100 percent rely on whos playing before them.
At Bal en Blanc Armin played after Infected Mushroom and he didnt play hard at all... |

Finally have a free minute this week, so I will finish my review(sorry for being so late).
The night was awesome. Got to meet up with ChrisFly before hand after a little confusion about his location haha. Markus is a great guy, very down to earth and personable. I look forward to the writeup of his interview.
We got into the club around 4:15ish. I coulda sworn that during the Trance Nation night for Armin that they allowed glowsticks inside. I guess I was wrong cause they didn't want to have any of that. Oh well....anyone that works at stereo know the reason for the no glowsticks rule?
Markus came on around 4:30 and he played an amazing set. I had only seen one of his sets live before (Armada night @Space Miami in March), and I was looking forward to another. That night I thought he played better then even Armin, and figured I would be even further impressed by his skills at Stereo. His set was amazing! He was more focused in the booth then most DJs I have seen. All in all I was taken aback by his mixing skills. He played hard, but as he said earlier that evening, he always plays harder in clubs then on his radio show. You want a hard set when you are dancing, and a more vocal, relaxed set when you are just sitting at your computer listening. I briefly mentioned to Markus that a lot of the Stereo regulars weren't so sure about Trance at their club, so I think he knew he had to cut out a lot of the fluff. If you think about it though, he is known for deep housey beats with melodic trancey overtones, and thats exactly what he gave us. In my opinion, he gave Stereo's sound system more of a workout then Armin did in Sept.
Unforunately, I had to depart around 9:30 cause one of my friends was pretty tired, but all in all in was just an awesome night!
Good to meet Chrisfly. Thanks again for the hospitality, and I hope we get to hangout again in the future.
Also met Enigmatik, nice to meet you.
There was one guy I was talking to outside with Chris, who said he worked at Stereo, but for the life of me I can't remember your name, but it was nice to meet you too haha.
I look forward to Above and Beyond night :) |

Excuse my late post.....but here it goes....
Awsome night to say the least, Markus played exceptionally hard which I dont mind at all :D Personally i found his track selection even better then Armins in Sept, thats just my 2 cents.
This man should come back to Stereo ASAP and bring more Trance djs too, it seems like the crowd enjoys this!
It was fun partying with everyone! Want to thank Stereohead for giving me ticks! thanks girl ;)
Overall agree with that everyone has been saying, hes great and oh loved him more this time around then Aria in Feb
Resolution here we gooooooo!

Markus played at ARIA like his usual style slow and slowly progressive ... Nick Pilon is a very good Trance DJ but him and Insomnia don't have the same style at all !! Nick and Markus style are very close of each other, so no surprise, we know them for this kind of style. No problem with that ...
At ARIA, Markus follow Nick which is good, but nothing special to say regarding that ...
At STEREO, Markus follow Insomnia ways, jumping into Hard Trance set that crossed genres all over the place, from house to trance to techno and back again. Markus did exactly the same things ! If Markus delivered us a amazing set like, a small part of this success and awesome night came back to Insomnia, even if she was nervous to played the first time on the best sound system in North America, she gave the tempo and the way of the night like she did so many times in many other parties before she's good for that and Markus jumped into the flow and he keep this way ...
This is my point, Markus looks like a genius last Friday, and even him wasn't aware of this and prepare for that ... He knows ARIA because he played there with Nick 2 times before, he was prepared for the same kind of set, and that's why he was upset at the beginning, and this time we gave him a "T.N.T Boom Insomnia" to opened the night + "Incredible Sound System" ... How he supposed to react on this ??? BOOMMMM !!! WE DISCOVERED ANOTHER MARKUS SCHULZ THAT WE DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT ... And you know what ? I was very happy to see him played differently this time than at ARIA ... Like all each other who posted in this thread ...
I don't thing a successful night is only because the Headliner did a great set, the opening set is even more important to give the tempo of the night and warmed up the crowd. Last Friday, Insomnia and Markus worked together to build this awesome night and no once can say that is not truth. :D
RESULT : One of the best night ever in Trance in Montreal !! AWESOME NIGHT !! |
