"too many asians"

[rant] OK, so I've read a lot of threads about Viva and have heard a lot of silly comments like "there are too many asians". Usually, the complaint is more to do with rude people than their race.

For the record, not all asians are rude. (duh!) If it was a majority of "white" people at the club who were s, you wouldn't say they were WHITE s, you'd just say they were s. I've been to plently of parties with s of every colour... but what I don't understand is that when the rudeness culprits are any other colour other than white, it has to be mentioned as if it's a part of why they're rude.

I just can't shake the feeling that there's this underlying racism with a lot of people when they think of going to Viva. It's always "too many asians!", and not "too many rude people", as the former is what should really matter.

What made me really sick was what this chick said to my girlfriend in the bathroom: "Oh, thank GOD... a white person!" WTF?!

Please guys, it sounds so ignorant and racist when you say things like that.

Me, I'm asian... and have been raving/clubbing for over 11 years (I just totally dated myself!) and was born and raised here. I just can't help but feel that some people might look at my skin colour and dismiss me as "one of those sktechy, rude asians".

I'm not trying to be PC police here, but I'm just trying to get you not to sound like ignorant racists, because I know (hope) you're not.

If you don't like the scene there, that's fine. But please don't make it into a race thing.

Judge not by the colour of one's skin, but the content of their assholiness! [/rant]

i totally agree....its not the race or the colour, its the person. if they suck..they suck. doesnt matter what there race is. as soon as i left my hometown and was around a lot more cultures i realized this.

Agreed but i dont think that most people are being racist per se when they refer to "asians" at guv or viva. I think it's the type of asians that go to certain clubs in toronto that are being referred to. You dont really see 50 year old white people on drugs being overtly rude at a club (unless u go to the horseshoe tavern i guess LOL). Agreed that referring to those people as "asians" paints all asians with a bad brush however in the EDM scene in toronto the overly sketchbag ones make up a vast majority of the asian EDM clubbing community. And that makes it hard for the others such as yourself.

Again i dont agree with the label, but im trying to illustrate for you why that label is hung on "asians" as it pertains to toronto's dance club culture and why it's not always a racist comment.

I can understand your frustration though. Id personally hate to be lumped in with that crowd. YUCK!

Further comment on what you said...

When i go to a party with rude white people i usually say they are a bunch of ginos LOL

And that person in the bathroom needs a beatdown because that clearly was a racist remark.

i have been to viva sevral times and i enjoyed it very much. I do understand why some white people dont wana go there or say that "too many asians". I dont think that they mean to be racist or mean or have any problem that asian people like to party there. It is just a little bit wierd when you are a minority in the club. I mean if a white guy would go to an real gangsta club all black thugs he would feel wierd. Or if a straight guy would end up in a gay pick up bar, he would also feel wierd.

So i think when people say that its too many asians its more like saying i wish that it was more of a mixed crowd so i dont feel like an outsider.

Ohh and some of the Viva patrons actualy do make you feel like an outsider, i personanly didnt have an issue but one of my friends was approached by some 16 year old kids who enjoyed letting him know that we are the only non asians in the astablisment at that time

at first it was strange for me when i went to viva because yes i wasnt used to it. But that feeling went away after literally 10 minutes.

Some of the "asian" comments for sure are racism but i think that most of them arent. Its just a way people describe who they are talking about.

Marcia, even annie does the "guv asian dance" when shes making fun of them and shes asian LOL!!
