I didn't once even discuss anything remotely pro-American - But people knew. I was treated like absolute in France, and in general, by the French the entire time I was in Europe. Granted, this is 3 months after the invasion into Iraq, but honestly, in every other place I travelled, people didn't instantly write me off the second I opened my mouth.
Sure, we spoke about politics and differences between cultures, but everywhere else people judged me for who I was. The French? The second the majority of them had me pegged as American it was immediate rudeness. It was ridiculous - And consistent, it wasn't an isolated experience. |

But there's an important lesson to be drawn from this. Lots of Americans are completely disconnected from what their government is doing, and now you got real proof (a wakeup call) that the actions of your government have a direct effect on how regular Americans are perceived.
In other words, what's happening in the world is not some video game that is brought to you by sanitized and scripted American networks like CNN, it's actually ing real. Quite an insight, isn't it? |

Considering our GDP is the highest in the world, and almost equivalent to that of the entire European union, not to mention 11 times higher than Canada's and 3 times that of Japan, which has the 2nd highest GDP, we're doing pretty well for a country filled with people that are mostly, "stupid as " - which is a brilliant way to express your feelings about another's intelligence, you must be a Shakespeare buff. |

Dude GDP has nothing to do with intelligence. America is doing well at the moment because it has lots of natural resources, a market economy, and a strong military.
But 92% of Americans are religious, lots of them reject science and believe in Intelligent Design, the vast majority has no grasp of the outside world or geography, I could go on and on... |

You are an idiot spouting the same baseless propaganda that runs rampant throughout the rest of the world. You know America is also the most religiously diverse nation in the world? And what about the HUGE population of Catholics who all firmly accept evolution?
We aren't all these backwater, evangelical, bible thumping, your cousin, polygamist s you seem to think we are. The polls you cite referring to our grasp of geography are significantly flawed in the manner in which they're conducted.

While a country doesn't necessarily have to have intelligent people to have a high GDP, my point was that for a bunch of stupid s we're doing pretty well.
To say that by being religious, one cannot be intelligent, you're placing yourself above a lot of people that are generally considered to be pretty damn smart. |
