well this would actually only be part of a short tv doc that focuses on drugs, music and spirituality - mushrooms, weed, e - to debate the idea whether drug-induced spirituality is real, profound or a shallow illusion or both or neither, etc...but i wouldnt mind focusing more on rave culture for a personal project... |
Before you do anything, read "Supernatural" by Graham Hancock, or "DMT: The Spirit Molecule" by Rick Strassman. That should give you some pretty good insight into this. Not so much rave culture per say, but with experience and if the experiences are real or not. Go to a library and see if you can find them, or just read some of it at a local book store. |

| Terance Mckeena is also someone that you'll want to check out. Not as familiar with his work but he does do research into this. |

If you want to make a documentary on drug-induced spirituality or revelations - rave culture is the worst place to start, or finish for that matter.
Go backpacking in India instead. Raves give everything a bad name: spirituality, drugs, love - everything. |

| Also looking for people in the Toronto area that would be willing to be interviewed about raves being anything but spiritual experiences.... |

i was obsessed with both terance and deniss mckenna, as well as sheldrake and abraham and even rick strassman and i came to the conclusion after years of wasted worship that these guys were all INSANE. hypercarbolation and the dmt spirit elves are hallucinations, not alternate realities. |

| I feel I'm a bit torn - for me it's all there - heaven and hell and meaningless party/release. What made you finally decide that they are hallucinations? Can't the feeling and connection be real even if it isn't lasting? |

Then why do people all over the world report very similar hallucinations, some pretty much the same. Read Graham Hancock's "Supernatural" something is happening here more than simply hallucinations with no meaning behind them or significance. Surely some hallucinations are just that, but the DMT experiments seem to point that some of these hallucinations are not simply chemical reactions in the brain. I don't think any of these guys should be worshipped, it's not them that are imporant, but their research and ideas. |

I hope you don't glamourize drug use-- it kills a lot of people and destroys lives. Using is suicidal, not spiritual.
What is so sacred about popping an illegal drug and having "insights." Spirituality isn't about having cosmic ideas, its about doing good things for oneself and others.
Spirituality isn't magic-- you can't take a pill and be closer to God. I tried that-- all I got was hangovers and heartbreak. Intensity isn't spirituality... it's addiction. Being spiritual doesn't feel like being high-- it feels like being grounded.
I hope I don't sound negative-- I want to be level headed.
Spirituality is a discipline that is practiced daily doing boring stuff like praying, meditating, reading, and especially it is about helping people.
