| I was just playing at a killer outdoor festival in Germany called Fusion. They have 17 stages that had a great variety of genres (rock, metal, dub, dnb, techno, trance, etc) and over 30,000 attendees. The trance stage lineup included Kiwa, Digicult, Star Sounds Orchestra, Vaishiyas, Rumble Pack, Feurehake, Gaudium, Klophgeister, Profane, Anti and many more. The Techno stage had acts like Gabriel Ananda, Len Faki, Bukador and Fishback, Martinez.... Overall the party was inanse. I personally spotted few musicians just there to dance and not to perform. Some of the artists include Ticon, D Nox and Beckers and Atmos. They were there just to party with everyone else. WOW, what a crazy event!!! The vibe was just unbeliavable. The party takes place at an old soviet military airport near Berlin. Some of the stages were in hangars and some were outside. The festival included many booths that carried everything from beer to food and to even.....charging stations for cellphones and wi=fi hot spots. Overall it was one of the best parties i ever been to. If you have a chance to go there, GO!! |

I remember seeing him in TO in 2005 when he played at... dammit... can't remember the name of the club... it has little LEDs in the wall though to make it look like stars. That was a wicked set. Astrix - Poison FTW :D |

Was it Republik? I think it was a Sunday night set. I didn't go. |

That club name sounds familiar, but it wasn't a Sunday. Well, I don't think it was a Sunday at least... it was a good 3 years ago, and my memory is even hazy when I try to remember whath appened last night :p |

Went to Infected Mushroom at Bluesfest here in Ottawa over the weekend. It was weird seeing them during the daytime, outside. They played all right, and the crowd was really into them. And there were no flag wavers which was a bonus.
Also saw the Wailers play that night. What a vibe THAT was. Awesome. |

| That sounds terribly odd. Was this for some city-run event or festival? I guess it is a measure of how far outside the movement they are... |

How about a dose of American psytrance?

SHAPESTATIC - METAPHIM
01 :: Platform (7:39)
02 :: Lightened (8:02)
03 :: Dancefloor (7:27)
04 :: Dream This (8:05)
05 :: Time Flies (7:19)
06 :: Drum (8:12)
07 :: Blastorb (8:07)
08 :: Grain (8:10)
09 :: Paralyzed (9:10)
Shapestatic is Chris Johnson (AKA Kri) and Alex Falk (AKA The Bastard) from the Appalachian Mountains of the southern United States. Typifying the growing Psytrance scene in that region, Shapestatic’s debut release Metaphim on North American record label Gaian Mind is a bombshell collection of raw, energetic, and passionate tracks meticulously put together with not a moment of sound wasted. Metaphim combines in-your-face bass lines with gritty, acid-drenched synth strata, tight percussion, tweaked-out samples, and purposeful harmony. Hard-edged and very psychedelic, yet still bouncy, positive, and musical, Shapestatic bears a sound which is wholly unique to America. Metaphim will keep your body moving well into the first rays of dawn!

Yeah, by no means do I consider them still psy-trance, they are kind of stuck in a musical netherworld. But they have been able to build a fanbase that will go see them - whereever they play.
I respect that, and I still like to support music outside of "the norm". |
