| I wish we were as unified as we were during WWII. |

I think it's a very, very important date in history |
Why is this one so much more significant than any other though?
| quote: | | History is so important to know. Why things are the way they are today, how it got to this point, what it took to get here, and everything in between. |
I agree.
Questioning it, however, is the only way that you will ever change the course of events. |

I'm not saying that it's more important but it is , however, still important to know. |

| Great thread clovis, thank you for setting a good example here. I respect all those who sacrificed their lives for this great country so we can have the freedom to say, do or think the way we do. |

Do you think that things would have been significantly different had the event been on...December 2nd, 1941? |

doubtlessly, and there's no need for a 5 days time difference for the significant change, a nanosecond of difference would do just as well. |

I am so glad you approve. Ecstatic, really.
I am, however, very displeased that you've not really addressed any of my questions directed at you.
All of us are making history right now - the history of the future. Whether you are aware of it or not, things you do every day of your life will affect the outcome of world events in some part, in some way - maybe this gives significance to what we do, maybe it detracts from our accomplishments - it's all a matter of perspective. Dwelling on the past and seeing events as major catalysts in and of only themselves is narrow-minded though and serves only to recount the dead, not truly bring any lifeline back into history or commemorate its course. Who knows what mysteries this world has seen that will be forever lost in time due to people forgetting because they allow the seemingly "larger" events to shadow them?
In any case, I am sorry that your viewpoint is not lent any credibility by the fact that you studied it in a book or saw the movie starring superstar actor Ben Affleck. I would recommend hanging out at the VFW as often as you can, given your obvious dedication towards historical preservation, but I am afraid your will is too lacking as well as the population of people who actually do recall the event with enthusiastic remembrance. It was a sad day a long time ago - but isn't every day sad in its own little way? |
