you know what else bugs me about vw's? the interior is the same for every car. even the toureg! you would think that a 70,000 suv would have somewhat of a different look to the inside but no. it just looks like my jetta with leather seats and fake wood grain. i think vw's are good for the price range, but in the end, you end up getting what you pay for. ruben is lucky he knows a mechanic that hooks him up but most of us don't have that luxury. dealerships don't give a about the customer, they are only there to make $$$. it's a sales job for crying out loud.

cars/gas are a scam. that's why i ride my bike as often as i can. so i can stick it to the man!

Thats a trick a lot of the dealerships use to get u in the doors. Its basically to get u there and sell u something else. I've been very successful with what i do because people are tired of that dealership BS. If you need help with a car, send me a PM. I'm a car broker and have relationships with a couple of VW dealerships.

Reeeaaally starting to think I should've made this thread yesterday :stongue:

Someone at work just told me all about brokers and how awesome they are. In any case...the dealership called and they got the car in today. I'm gonna go down there after work and see what's up. Maybe I'll get it...hopefully I won't get screwed :p

I used to work in a dept. called Sales Channel. Basically all internet and print leads for thousands of dealers across the US would be routed through our company. We didn't have up-to-date live inventories, so our spiel went something like this:
*you tell me what you want*
"Oh that's a great choice! we have several available* that will fit your needs with similar options and colors, you prefer (dark/light) colors right? great. Yea let's go ahead and schedule an appointment to come down and take a look!"

* "available" being a key word so just like what happened to Bas, if they don't have the one you called about , something similar is available.

*you ask how much*
" Well price is always important, tell me.. what range were you hoping to be around? (price) Ok great I'll let your sales associate know so he's aware of what you'll be llooking at"

we never forwarded that info. it was such bull. The dealer may have had one piece of no option jetta for a low ass price, and had sold it an hour after they got it. But they advertise that one saying "call for options/color/etc." only to have someone misleed them. And I know we weren't/aren't the only company doing that. I quit after a few months to try and save some integrity.

i bought my jetta their brand new in 04 and i never had a problem with it, or the dealer, until about a month ago when my car hit 80,000 miles (ya i drive a lot)

so...i took it in like usual for it's scheduled maintenance and paid 700 bucks (cus i guess the 80,000 mile service is the biggie for jettas) anyways, the car is fine and i take it out that nite for the justice/ladytron gig at the standard. on the way home, the car totally just slips out of gear on me :wtf: i coast off the freeway and park it in some sketchy neighborhood in hawaiian gardens thinking that maybe, JUST MAYBE, i might be out of gas (the light came on about 5 minutes before the car slipped out of gear) so i walked for srsly 1 hour @ 3am looking for a gas station. i buy a can of gas and walk back another hour to my car. of course, when i put the gas in, the car wont start...so i call AAA and they tell me i have to renew my membership for 75 bucks in order for them to bring a tow truck out. so i paid and the dude came out...i end up getting home at like 7am and pass out. when i wake up i call AAA again and get my car towed back to the dealer. they told me i needed a new clutch and it would cost me 2400 bucks! so i said 'uhhhhh NO thats too much money' the guy was kinda cool with me cus i always take my car in there for service so he knocked the price down to 1900. i said it, just fix the car. so the next day i pick up my car and go to work. when i get off work, the ing car wont start...so i had to get it towed AGAIN to the dealer. turns out they ed something up with the battery (which was brand new with the 800 dollar service i had a couple days earlier). i had to pay 100 bucks just for them to look at the car this time and tell me what was wrong. and another 50 to fix it...so i drive the car home...next day when i go to work, as im backing out of the driveway, i notice a HUGE ing pile of oil in my driveway! so i call in at work, call AAA again and get my car towed back to the dealer for the 3rd time. this time they tell me i need a new tranny gasket (which they didn't replace when they took it apart to fix the clutch) and it would cost me 200 dollars. at this point i ing lost it. i demanded to speak to a manager and i basically cussed him out for 10 minutes before he agreed to do the service for free. that was like 3 weeks ago and ever since then my stereo has been ED UP. i dont even wanna take it back there cus im just sick of dealing with those morons. i used to LOVE VW and even had my parents buy one for my sister earlier in the year but now i cant wait til i get my raise at the end of the month so i can get rid of that piece of and buy this:

EDIT* they also told me that i need to get a new timing belt within the next 500 miles....which will cost me approx. 900 dollars :wtf: the car is only worth 8000 blue book and ive paid half that in repairs alone in the last month. kkk vw

WOW... sounds exactly like my story with my 98 VW Jetta... had it towed multipule times, walked the whole miles thing, had everything damn near in the engine replaced... then some estimate came out to be $3500 or so and it was a 98 Jetta in 2004 with 80K miles on it...

a 98 Jetta in 04 with 80K looks good on paper... i sold it to Carmax b/c they mostly look at its blue book value... i took my $2800 and ran... good riddiance VW... although the first 70K miles it was flawless.. no excuse though... VW parts are RECOCKULOUSLY priced!!

buy a honda, toyota, nissan for their reliability... or a ford or chevy for their ease to fix...

buying NEW cars is the biggest scam in the world. avoid it at all costs.

private party or a CPO program would save you a lot of money.

I don't think I will ever buy another new car. If my commute was only a few miles I would consider a lease before I ever pay for massive depreciation on another automobile.

Leases are definitely the way to go these days. Thats why u see many luxury cars on the road. Leases makes these cars more affordable to some by having reasonable payments and less out of pocket. Depreciation on any luxury car is massive!!! If you do a lease vs buy comparison, the breaking point of when u should buy the car is around 25k.

For instance, a BMW 530i at the moment with an MSRP of $53k is going around $600/month with a $2500 drive for 3 year lease w/15k miles. In contrast this car would be $10k down, 5 year loan for $950/month at 6.75%. U have depreication, body style change, wear and tear, damange and market conditions affecting the book value. Also I'm sure most have u been in a situation when u sold ur old car, u don't get what its worth. You end up losing even more.

If u TA's ever need any help with stuff, send me a pm. More then happy to help.

unless you drive over 15k miles...

i contemplated this very issue when i bought a brand new $41K car this past feb... but now 10 months and 27K miles later i feel leasing would have been a horrible decision..
