Majority of nights in Melbourne are run by crews, not the venue. Normal deal is that the venue takes the bar & pays staff and security and the promoters take care of paying the DJ's as well as all promotional costs. Hence without that cover charge you wouldn't be having the good time you have mentioned, because there would be no night to head out to.
$20 is at the top end of the scale for sure, but ing stupid? Not really. Vote with your feet if you don't think you're getting value for money, but if you don't think paying somewhere between $10-20 to go out and hear some DJ's spin the records you want to dance to is value for your money then i guess i find that a little strange personally. |
Listen. Don't call me ignorant you prick, and don't even start to lecture me on how clubs work!! I was an event manager for clubs in Whistler whilst throwing my own event nights in other locations and cities, and probably have more club/event management experience under my belt than most.
Of course I expect to pay a cover, OBVIOUSLY! But $20 a head more than covers the cost of dj's and other promotional additives. DJ's aren't getting paid that much, and it mostly goes into the promoters pocket, albeit after spending their own cash up front in the first place. Heck, everyone needs to make money.
And I was more than happy to vote with my feet last night, so why can't I vote with my voice on a discussion forum?
I'm mearly expresising my dis-like for having to pay a STUPID amount for entry. And yes $20 is stupid for a place I know nothing about and DJ's I never heard of! So don't give me this "ignorant, you don't know attitude" ok. |

Do you? Do you even know what day it is?? LOL :toothless
$20 is pretty standard with clubs these days - Sydney is probably more expensive than Melbourne anyway.
Big deal.
