Environment: It's not the People, It's the Cows!

Two interesting articles:

1. Humans aren't as bad for the environment as thought, says the UN.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/mai.../nclimate10.xml

2. Cows are more harmful to the environment that cars.

So in the end it's not Bubba in his Hummer, it's old Bessie in the pasture. Damn cows.

i did a life cycle analysis on running shoes for one of my 4th year electives this term. when i was doing my analysis as to the environmental impact of making shoes in places like china and thailand even though the leather comes from the US, gets shipped to china, then the shoes get shipped back to the US.... the process of raising the cattle had the most impact on greenhouse gas emisions

It would be interesting to see if PETA steps in if scientists warn that a reduction (slaughter) of cattle would bring any harmful emmisions down to tolerable levels. Cause I certainly wouldn't want to eat salads the rest of my life over some tree hugger nonsense done wiped out the beef industry.

I'm no tree hugger but damn it with this tree-hugging, save-the-whale, save-the forest, save-the-dolphins crap. People that hug trees should care about the homeless guy sleeping under the overpass or trainstation for once in their life, geez.

More CO2 is good for the trees anyway since they give off oxygen. But I venture to guess people forgot basic biology.

If farmers were smart; they'd find a use for cow gas...:p

Major contributors of CO2 emissions. Cars and big fat cows... hmm... damn SUVs and fastfood. I guess us Americans fit the bill eigther way :( :p.
Lilith
I offset my V8 cars emissions by trying to eat a lot of cows.
See! I am helping!

Most of those people never really made it out of university though, either that or it's waste everyones time while living up the slacker lifestyle on their industrialist father's corporate shares and trust funds. Then decide one day after putting the bong down after slumming it up in some eastern euro bohemian backpacker dump "hey, my lifes pointless lets go annoy the square people by telling them what to do!"
Rest of us are just to busy worrying how to pay of our morgage(s) and if the tax man is going to double dip us out of everything we own.

To be honest, governments should be taking up the matter of proper mental health care and fill up the holes in the social security system that lets people fall through the gaps.
The other side of the coin is that things like pandas, dolphins and furry animals are far more photogenic and 'cute' to the wider variety of clueless people looking at them where homeless people tend to not be.

This makes me feel old considering I remember when Linda McCartney banned the crew on one of Paul's concert tours from eating beef because of the environmental impact of cow farts.
