While I do not begrudge you for what you have posted I must challenge you. I trust you understand this. As I stated earlier, this will be a difficult decision for many and your use of misleading and unsubstantiated negative campainging against me will only muddy the waters. Please, do not insult those you seek to gain support from, it is unbecoming of a person as dignified as you and shows a great deal less character then we all know you possess. Most disturbingly, your tactics show you have a very low view of the c0r, which as someone who vehamently loves and values this community I find reprehensible. |
I absolutely do not intend to run a negative campaign and, accordingly, I'm not going to dispute any of the statements you have made in your defense. But despite the fact we have many of the same aims, there are clearly some big differences as well that I think voters need to be aware of.
In your own words, you believe that "this is a community that is quite capable of enforcing it's own standards." Now, that's a very noble sentiment, and I wish that I could share it. Unfortunately, it's also a failed strategy. Over the past four years these "standards" have steadily dropped precisely because they haven't been enforced. Many members with high standards have left when faced with the deluge of pointless threads and failed attempts at humor, and for the most part their place has been taken by members with far lower standards, who have only contributed further to the problem.
A lot of good people have worked against this trend for years. I've worked against it. Many of the members with high standards have worked against it. And many of our past and present moderators have worked against it. But it hasn't been enough, and it's not the fault of those people who have put their time and effort into raising the bar here in the chill out room instead of lowering it, it's simply the fact that the people who are lowering the standards have far more collective time on their hands. Do I have a low view of those individuals who've undermined our efforts to raise standards here in the COR? Of course I do: I believe that anyone who genuinely valued this community and, in particular who had seen it change over the course of the last half-decade would regard those who they see as having caused it to deteriorate with a certain degree of contempt.
If the chill out room were really capable of enforcing reasonable standards, then I must ask why our chill out room moderators and former moderators - long standing and generally respected members of the community - are forced to time and time again write posts such as these:
http://www.tranceaddict.com/forums/...threadid=387249
http://www.tranceaddict.com/forums/...threadid=378734
http://www.tranceaddict.com/forums/...threadid=378769
You say that "this is a polling of the c0r to determine who they believe best exemplifies what we as the c0r value." I say that we need to re-evaluate what we really value most. I say that we need to raise standards instead of letting them continue to decline.
When I ask my fellow tranceaddicts to vote for me, I am not just asking them to vote for me as an individual. I'm asking them to vote for a change of direction, for new standards and new values - or, I should say, for the old standards and old values we once enjoyed here in this forum. Will voting for me erase our problems or magically cause us to revert to our former glory? Certainly not. But it will send a powerful message that there is still a strong desire out there in this community to raise standards - because that is the true message of my campaign. If nothing else, I think that's a start - something we can build upon. I don't believe that a vote for you, Moral Hazard, would be a bad vote because of any failing of yours, I believe it would be a bad vote because it would represent a failure to take advantage of the opportunity to send that message. |
