Bull, there's plenty. Everyone's a producer these days since production programs are so easily accessible/pirated. That's not to say that there's piles of horse to sift through, but it does mean that there's TONS of music out there. It's a dj's main job to find the good tracks people may have not been exposed to, though now-a-days the commercial aspect has sunken in. Dj's spend their time pandering to theirs or their buddy's label and whoring out the same tracks. |

You'll have to listen more carefully then :p
My point was.. There are probably millions of dj's around the globe, you can't expect each one of them to have a unique sound, that is impossible. There are bound to be similarities between playlists.. That's why saying Playground is an exact copy of ASOT is a bit unfair in my view. |

Yes, I can. I have a fine appreciation for good DJ'ing, and the DJ's I enjoy do have a unique sound.
There aren't just similarities in the tracklists of the DJ's I mentioned - They literally sound EXACTLY the same as each other set to set, regardless of the tracklist. |

Thereīs no fair/unfair, itīs a fact. Every tune from the Playground Top 20 (Iīm not sure about 19 & 20, though) was heavily played in ASOT. The only difference between the both lists is that the ASOT one was probably compiled by a bigger number of fanboyish morons (hence the number of A&B and Armin tunes on the top). |

Armin tends to play more vocal tracks, though.
Replace the word "exactely" with "pretty much" in your post, and I'll agree. Saying both shows are 100% identical goes too far, though.

I'm pretty sure the sound those DJ's are pushing has inspired other DJ's as well. |

2 thoughts really:
All you trancejockeys - if you still want to be spinning trance 5-10 years from now and actually having "good" crowds come out and listen to you, you guys need to reinvent yourself and constantly seek new ways to expand your genre. Playing the same that everyone else is - is precisely what's killing the tranc-scene right now. Now I'm sure there'll be arguments about this and that and how it's not dying but trust me - it is, maybe not in the "i'm still going to make money from this bitch" death but I'm talking about the death of what originally pulled me into it and has kept me there for the past decade. All this commercial whoring is creating a different culture that I do not want to be a part of.
Second of all - whatever happened to pioneering sound?
Now this is a view of a fan and not a top 100 poll DJ and really just one voice in the crowd. But just something to consider... maybe.
PS What I don't get is why isn't this thread locked down and Danjo banned?? We can't promote ourselves as DJs and post our sets in MD why can he? off whatever whore-loving mod let this dangle.

There are different trance out there. which doesnt appeal to the majority of "trance lovers"
go on with ur uplifintg melodic VST Trance records.. but you will meet resistance, from the minority that likes different trance, and see that music overshadowed by the popularity of these acts gotten popular by radioshows like ASOT etc. |

Here's what I would like to see:
Paul van Dyk or Armin or Tiesto or Oakenfold or any of those guys go to a club to play a big set, but the catch is this: they go out on stage and greet the crowd, but then they play their set in some little back room out of sight of all the attendees. Maybe they could have a video camera set up so as to watch the crowd without being seen, just to see how people are reacting to tracks they play.
This would never actually happen, but I'd like to see how the crowd at a big event would behave if it did. Would be an interesting experiment.
I think that quite a few people attending would lose most of their energy and would probably go home early. What would that tell you about why they're there? |

| I like that idea, especially if we could throw in Lord Of Bass into the mix as well... he will probably tear the roof off.. when Armin starts playing Chasing Cars the crowd will stop dancing and question whether or not they came to dance or to go to an emo concert. |
