| It's funny that the best track of LEF (among with "Beautiful") is "I Love You" which was produced in late 2004. I have to agree with most of the people here. As a dj Ferry is great but as a producer he needs to get back to the basics. Still he has a special place in my heart for his old productions (Galaxia,Out Of The Blue, remix of Barber's Adagio For Strings, remix of Force Of Gravity etc) |

If he had made music by just using his intros and outros from System F and Gouryella, he'd be my favorite producer. I didn't much care for the melodies that followed.
Haven't seen him DJ much, though. I get the impression his parties are quite fun, though. |

That Zoukout(SG) theme song (prob L.E.F) he did is a joke. Horrible time finish watching that zoukout advertisement.
He's done lotsa uber choons back then but going downhill. |

A lot of forums for musicians will often deleate critical comments. After all, it's bad for business (and, er, the ego). |

ditto, i always loved the system f productions, he stayed pretty consistent up until 2005, where I began to have a hard time getting into his productions or sets. everything started sounding like Punk. I still love ferry, he is capable of dropping insane sets despite getting loaded but i reminisce about the old ferry these days.
though admittedly i still try and see him every time he is in town. |

I'll echo the sentiment of many others in this thread that LEF was a big letdown. The only thing that grabbed me was Cubikated -- especially massive live -- but that's almost entirely to the credit of 808 State, not Ferry.
I think Ferry hit apex at Needlejuice and Indigo. Right of Way was one of my favorite singles from 2003, but carried a whiff of desperation. You could tell time was running out. That the epic stuff from Right of Way made an impact at all so late in the trance game is impressive in itself, and a testament to his ability in producing the Dutch style. But it was clear from Kyoto and Sweet Sorrow that he had pushed the sound to its limits. Those were swan songs of epic.
Like Clovis said, Ferry has always been a great "party DJ". He's never been near as self-conscious as the other trance bigwigs, and that's part of what made his fun epic slosh work. The rest is that he's technically a cut above other trance DJs, and keeps the details tight. He can tracklist if bothered, though most of the time that's not the point.
Ian mentioned his brief affair with some techno, and I wish he had taken that route. He played techno impressively well. Ah, well, he's got a few years left to make good. Maybe he'll still be around when "neotrance" evolves to epic proportions. :stongue: |

| My favorite tune from his latest album was "I Love You"... as a DJ, his mixing and sets have been top class! But as a producer, his stuff seems to be deteriorating. But yeah, I have a lot more respect for him compared to Oakenfold/Tiesto. |
