so, i've been putting this off for way too long, but i've just decided that my goal for 2007 is to become a Flash pro. i'm currently using Flash MX Professional 2004 and i know there's like a billion tutorial websites and books out there but i really don't feel like searching to find the best ones. can anyone recommend me some sites/books that they've used that were helpful?

thanks in advance! :)

you could go the route i did
take a class in it in high school, realize the teacher doesn't give a after about 2 days and make awesome flash animations of stick figures fighting all day for an entire semester :wtf:

wouldn't recommend it though

lol, i took a 6-week class a few years ago at MIAD... was totally psyched to learn the basics, and i did learn a little bit, but we spent most of the time watching the instructor figure out how to operate a Mac. it was ing ridiculous.

I've been only using Flash since I started Year 3 this year (I also use MX) and I bought the Flash MX 2004 Bible and ActionScript: Training from the source. Our lecturers recommend that to become a master at it, learning ActionScrpit is vital, although I'll admit, I'm still a total n00b with the whole thing.

For websites, I just use whatever's there, but if you want inspiration for creating something go to:

maybe you should learn to MOD before you move on and learn Flash.

Do yourself a favour. Get Flash 8. The visual effects make life a hell of alot better and it serves up better tweening capabilities and updated embedded classes.

I learned off MX 2004 Pro...I think the book was called Actionscript from the Source (Amazon Link to Flash 8 Version)

Let me know if you have any general scripting or animation questions though Macromedia(now Adobe)'s help file is actually pretty good. Just dont ask me anything about graphic design....i have the skills of an 8 year old :p

retarded samurai edit: www.flashkit.com for resources and scripts. Just make sure you contribute if you take ;D

Additional wallaby edit: I have a ton of library code saved up too if anyone needs flash functions, buttons, etc :D

Nah..

You're a fantastic mod!

Just play around with the tutorials in the software and when you can't figure something out, go to the website and run a search. It's not difficult.

I was impressed with the animation you made for the whore off. My skills are no where near that. Right now, I'm finishing a Kraftwerk interactive piece for a project. I've still to learn to do a normal animation.

oh yah, got that site saved in my favorites already. i use it all the time, mostly for sound effects and loops.

i'll have to ask my boss about upgrading me to Flash 8. i'm pretty sure that's what our other designers have here.
