| well it seems like all the big trance DJ's are terrified of playing something like AYLA - AYLA veracocha mix or something becuase it might offend the cheese gods or something, so they try to spin real "mature" trance but its just not fun/uplifting/interesting to hear the same boring the whole way thru a 3 hours ASOT, |

| There is still good trance around. Every year I list my top 20 tracks of the year, and most of the time a lot of trance releases end up on my list. I was looking at 2003, 2004, 2005 and what I had listed so far for 2006 and I realized that the best trance on those 4 lists was in 2003, after that the lists get less trance oriented, more trance-prog. Yes my tastes are changing but not enough to discard and have good epic trance eclipse any other genre for me. GOOD trance is just generally harder to find now. I agree... But it's still out there. |

Guys Guys, taste might change, so does music.
Trance changes to something else, trance of 90's is not trance in 2000's until now, it just changes, as their artists change and all...
it's like always, there is a wave, and you ride on it, and it breaks. you can look back and listen to these songs, but this wave will not be there again.
the wind of change that is :-)
*hugs* |

If I see one more thread on this topic, I am shooting myself in the face.
No offense to you, you're new. But this topic is covered daily. It is quite a simple formula.
1. Someone posts "OMG TRANCE IS DEAD" or "WHAT HAPPENED TO THE TRANCE OF ____ "
2. Someone else posts "YA OMG I KNOW WHAT U MEAN"
3. Several people respond with "Trance is not dead, albiet, it is a bit harder to find the "good" stuff now".
4. Someone complains about the availability of DAWs and software and how it is saturating the market with crap songs.
5. Some like me points out that this is the millionth time this topic has been covered. |

Yeah, but it always gets a reaction.
I've been known to start this topic on occasion for just that reason.

[Sorry.] :p
I start good topics, too, though. ;) |

| Yeah, that seems to catch people's eye pretty well, too. |

As I far as Paul van Dyk goes, I still play his first Politics of Dancing, but can't stand to even listen half way through the second one.
The same for Max Graham, I still can't get enough of Transport 4 while his newer mixed and productions pale in comparison. |

Trance has been dead since 2002. Sadly, this is something that any new listener to the genre must come to grips with. Progressive used to be a viable alternative, but it shed what was left of its tranciness in 2005, with all the "electro" shenanigans. There are a few patches of progressive left here and there, like the stuff Satoshi Tomiie is spinning as of late.
Today's techno, especially from Cologne and Canada, sounds closer to trance than anything now sold under that genre. For example:
Tom Pooks - Pablo Assan's
Mathew Jonson - Marionette |
+1 on this... i've been trawling Beatport's techno section the last couple of months, finding what i'd call 'trance' at least, what it used to soundlike 1995-98, before mcprog twinkle OR techtrance bang bang took over. Too bad there is no 'real' energetic trance left anymore. |
