As promised, thread quality control has made its return as part of my Education for a better COR program.
In this thread, I'll evaluate the quality of some of the topics that have recently been active in the chill out room. The function of this exercise is to encourage users to think critically about what kinds of threads are appropriate for a general discussion forum.

Discussion an upcoming movie is indeed an appropriate topic for the general discussion forum. It would have been a better thread if the original poster had more to say on the topic, but overally it is a quality thread that is appropriate to this forum and stimulates actual discussion.

Well, it's a topic for discussion, I guess. As for the quality of discussion it's likely to facilitate... well let's just say it could be better. Maybe it could be spruced up to be actually funny if the author provided a hypothetical account of how he would be gay, if he were. But as it stands it's pretty much scraping the bottom of the barrel.

"A good idea," huh? No. I am being completely earnest when I write this: it is difficult for me to imagine a more juvenile thread. The simple fact that this thread has accumulated almost 500 posts worth of spam, drivel, and tripe and remains on the first page months after it was originally posted is a more scathing indictment of the current state of the chill out room than I could ever put into words. A better question would have been "Which TAs would you like to see stripped naked, then drawn and quartered?" The answer would be: just about anyone who would post Ivand's "masterpiece" here for any reason other than to slam it.

Well, it's not a new topic, but it's not a bad topic either. The thread introduces a topic for discussion, and provides a substantial (if poorly formatted) opinion from an outside source. I can't find anything to criticize, so...

Here's an idea: if you have nothing to say, don't post. And here's another one: if you have something that's just funny but you don't have anything to say about it, maybe you should post it in the humor forum instead of the general discussion forum. Posting in the wrong forum is obviously an automatic F, so without further ado:

Look, we don't need to know when you leave any more than we need to know when you return. If we care, we would notice when you were posting (or not), and we could draw the obvious conclusion. So these kinds of threads really serve no function, and the certainly don't facilitate a discussion of general interest.

Well on the negative side, it's arguably more suited to the humor forum than the general discussion forum. Also, having FAO in the title is usually a bad sign. But, on the positive side, it is actually funny unlike most of the "humor" posted in the chill out room and it could facilitate a lightheared discussion about the Ipswich serial killer.

Edit: Updated the grade for "Thread Quality Control 2." Given the amount of criticism it received, and the sources of that criticism, a grade of A was clearly too low to reflect its actual quality. |

you fail as you have not established appropriate grading guidelines for the C0r to understand your notation system.
This is nothing but a pathetic attempt at trying to impose your views on the community all the while insulting it's basic essence of chilling out and having a laugh or two ( and sometimes more ).
More importantly what are you trying to achieve? You have no control on the final outcome or the open and closed nature of threads.
Stop trying to make your position appear to be something it is not. |
