And i think i have all my old broken Sonys, Grados, Audiotechnicas, Pioneers, Sennheisers and whatnot i have used in the past 15 years in a cardboard box somewhere in the attic..
Of course it would be a waste to use good headphones without any amplification for them, especially when using with portable players of which most don't have any kind of headphone amplification. The difference in sound with and without an amp is huge, also on a home stereo system. So pretty much whenever i use my headphones off the mixing table, i use them thru one of these little babies, size of about 7cm x 5cm x 2cm, which is smaller than my portable player itself:
