and yes i believe it will play hd-dvd, although there is a known issue with downscaling the 720 to 480 on hd-dvd and similar quality mediums at that view rate. it'll get fixed by sony, just that sony didn't feel like nickle and diming their customers. and besides, who wants another set-top addition to their 360 just to be able to play hd-dvd along with draining the wallet a bit. =) |

The one concession you have to make here is that a large segment of 360 owners invested almost a year ago - And so the extra $200 essentially amounts to a new investment, and is not generally intertwined with the initial purchase price.
Furthermore, the option to purchase items in segments may appeal to some, as they can afford the games now, and will be able to afford the HD upgrade in the future.
Edit: Nyce, this bottom part isn't really directed at you in particular as you clearly have an understanding of what I'm about to say :)
I'm not saying one is better than the other, and my comment about Time being completely out of line making this assertion still stand, I just think in the end comparing the two is a little trickier than it initially appears. MSFT, Sony, and Nintendo are all targeting substantially different demographics than would appear on the surface - The next year will be far more interesting than many would have you believe. |

you are absolutely correct, another $200 is "another" investment to an already 1yr invested console isn't all that hurtful. I just think Sony priced it at $600 which makes it obvious to compete with an overall approach to what MSFT is doing. Anything priced lower would undermine the current market, and anything over would prove futile for the console. So accurately pricing it at $600 is on point.
I must note however, that buying a 60gb is Sony robbing a majority of 'non-modding' users, which happens to be about 60% of the Sony fanbase. Most if not all Sony fanboys know that Sony gaming products are NOTORIOUS for it's mod-ability. So a GOOD BUY would be a 20GB for a significant discount with a $100-200 mod for say 160+gb drives that are out there in the market.

i've argued this before and I agree, all 3 consoles have different audiences, just I think it's unfair to pick out the negatives in Sony and boast the positives in other consoles. |

I agree in most conditions, but when there are blatant comparisons to make (i.e. the MGS4/Asassins Creed issues, other multiplatform titles, and services on each that are comparable), I think those kinds of discussions can be appropraite.
Whether or not people conduct themselves in appropriate manners when those discussions take place is another matter entirely ;) |

oh so just because you talk about the 360 and Wii you have some sort of immunity here? because you say my thread is garbage i have to take that and accept it? which has been your whole objective here. Oh and just to let you know, most of the threads i posted still reflected negative opponions about the ps3 launch. also, when i made those threads, there was nothing to report about the Wii because it hadn't launched. and plus since there wasn't anything to report about the 360 i didnt post anything.
ya and what's your damn point? i posted negative threads about the system. Like i said, many times, i own it, but like MOST people we were not happy with sony's launch attitude. Plus, there were ohters here who posted negative threads about the ps3 also. sure i had more, but who cares, many people enjoyed them. oh, and if you didn't like all of my so called hateful threads about the ps3, how come you never replied to them, or voiced your opponion, you just wait until i make this one and now you claim iam a ps3 basher. Ya..you dont seem to so consistent there either. |
