DJ upgrade dilemma - efx1000 or djm800?

Howdy TA'S,
I've got a bit of a dilemma here...since April of this year I haven't bought any vinyl’s due to me being strapped all the time for cash & as months go on, I’m wanting more & more vinyl which is making it a harder decision for me to part with my money.
It's come to the stage now where I'm fed up of the decks just lying there getting no use.
So I've so far made up my mind that I'll be buying two cdj1000mk3's in April when I acquire cash. However that will mean I'll have two mk5g's & the cdj's connected to my 3 channel rane empath. Now do I either:
1. Sell the empath & buy a DJM800 so I can make use of the 4 decks
2. Sell one of the mk5g's & buy an EFX1000
The reason for me introducing the efx1000 into the equation is that when I start up again, I want to spice my mixes up.
There's pro's & con's to both choices. If I sell the empath then I lose use of the scratching ability & full kill's it has. I also can't justify having 4 decks as I don't mix techno. However I'll still be able to mix vinyl to vinyl if i can't get tracks on mp3.
Choice two obviously holds back the benefit of mixing vinyl to vinyl though at least I'd have a proper efx unit to make my mixes unique.
I could even just keep the two tt's & not sell the empath but wouldn't that be a bit pointless?
Arghhhh this has been running through my heading for 2 days & could easily turn to 2 weeks if I don't get advice from you lot! :nervous: :conf:
Cheers! |

I'd say sell the TT and get the EFX
You said yourself that 4 decks would be overkill.
You can always rip your vinyl to wav/mp3 and then onto CD, so theres no need to have 2 decks as your music can be in both formats.
The effects from an EFX unit would be better than an onboard unit and you like the features of your current mixer.
Personally I'd do the opposite though, sell the Empath and get the DJM (actually probably Nuo-5 in my case), just because I don't see an EFX unit as being that vital to me.
HOWEVER you seem to think the effects will be important to you, so I'd suggest you get the EFX.
Seems like indecision I know, but your circumstances and needs are different to mine. |

| I agree with pretty much everything Trance Nutter has said. |

As far as FX is concerned I will throw this into the mixing pot as a bit of food for thought. The guy who I bought my EFX1000 off sold it because he bought a DJM800 & found he was no longer using it... Personally I find plenty of use for it alongside my DJM909 & I'm no Zabiela :p :D
Suppose what I'm saying is whichever route you decide to take I'm sure you will be happy with your choice, they are both good so it might be worth concentrating on whether you can live without 1 of your TT's. |

i really don't see a reason to sell your empath even if you are using 2 TTs and 2 cdjs. you can still hook them all up and transition from vinyl to vinyl and cd to cd.
so if i were you i wouldn't sell anything and would buy the efx-1000. |

Well, depends on what he wants to do, like go into some 3 decks techno madness. |

| I'de say DJM 800. It's more useful in the long run. Why spend so much money just to add some effects to your sets? Sure it's cool, but is it worth all of that money? I mean maybe it's just me, but I just think it's a waste of $$$ |

+1.
Unless you're a Zabiela (sp??) wannabe then the 800 has all the effects you'll need.
I have one. I love it.

Ok thanks for the useful comments.
I'm going to sell the empath & get the djm800. I don't want any restrictions on mixing vinyl to vinyl hence my choice.
The DJM 800 more or less does the same as the EFX 1000 anyway...!
Now I jus need to wait till April onwards to get it all...:( |

Good choice. The DJM 800 may not, as i've heard, have as good of effects as the EFX 1000, but unless your James Zabiela as noted, you really don't need anymore than what is offered on the DJM 800. |
