Moog Audio eh...

Alex has one... you should PM him.
Alex
You talkin about the pro or just the X-session?

Both are quality, the pro has (obviously) more of a DJ feel to it but naturally feels a little bit cheap, as most MIDI controllers do.

The regular x-session is wikkid too, seemingly better quality but poorer layout if you intend on using it for DJ'ing.

If you wanted to use the X-Session pro for dj'ing id recommend it for sure, so long as you like, glue it to your desk so it doesnt in move around when you "agressively" switch a bassline or something of that nature. The thing honestly weighs like a pound.

I have the original X-Session, still like it. Just bought another one second-hand for backup. Shape of the unit works well with a laptop, goes in front perfectly, and the knob/button layout is OK for Traktor 2 or 3, although not conventional. It's made from good quality plastic and the electronic innards look sturdy (I opened mine up). It will hold up if you take care of it, but it's not built as tough as an all-metal mixer.

The "Pro" version has a more DJ type layout. But it doesn't look like it has the right layout for anything besides EQing 4 channels which you can do with Traktor 3, but I don't think a lot of people are going to need to do that (4 channels). You can re-assign some of the knobs/buttons for other stuff if you only need 2 or 3 channels..

Price can't be beat really. Other Midi control boxes can cost up to 5 times more, and you might not find them much better.

I have noticed my units are becoming a bit erratic due to unsmooth electrical operation of the knobs and fader. This could probably be fixed with some control cleaner (I hope).

Why don't you use both at once?
Alex
The knobs, faders, buttons on the X-session pro are all assignable.

You have to tell me what program you're using to DJ so I can be more of help!

I use the x-session pro with traktor 3, and I'm finding it a really good match. Some people say it looks really cheap and whatnot, but if you can overlook that (it's really about the music, not looks, right?) then you can start taking advantage of it.

As Alex wrote, it really depends on what program you are using. And from there, it depends on the function for which you will be using it. So far I've been using it to make some mixes, but could just as well see using it at a club or party to DJ live. If you assign the all the controls that it has in an optimal way, you can really get a lot out of it - I know I have. I went through 2 or 3 different configurations of control assignments until I found the one that worked best for me. Also, I know a few people complain because it has less buttons than the original x-session, but that is no problem to me because right next to my x-session pro is my laptop, which has more buttons that I can handle :toothless:

I bought mine from turntablelab.com for $100, they also had free shipping. Hope this helped, PM me if you want a more detailed description of how I've assigned the controls or anything else.

Well I have a power supply cube (I don't think USB port can power both at once) and a Midi cable for interconnecting so I should be able to run both at once, might be useful with Traktor 3.

But I've had tinitus recently and not so much spare time so haven't been messing with the DJ stuff.

If I had known the Pro version was coming out I would have got it instead of a 2nd original type. An original X-Session plus the new Pro version might be a good combo.

I'd still like better having two X-Sessions than a pro and normal...

I just hate the pro version because of how cheap it looks.

Anyway...my setup is Emu Xboard 49 + original x-session...which is the best combo you can get ;)

Pickin up one of those soon, how do you like it?

i love it. wish i had more BUTTONS for triggering samples and loops.

i know it has some on the right and you can use the 1-4 to select more banks but i am not really good with midi and the more i hit buttons the more i will screw something up.

plus i dont trust soft buttons sometimes.

mostly because im running it over usb, if it was plugged in actual MIDI port maybe i wouldnt laugh at the delays when i press a button sometimes
