You sure about that. The word 'char' has been around much longer. For example, France had an indigenous tank program at the opening of WWII, and most tanks were designated "Char" followed by some number...
So it may have just naturally evolved to encompas other forms of transportation, albeit transportation sans the large caliber guns :D |
