That's sheer assumption. If you're looking for the most uplifting and emotionally approachable track on TBU then surely it would be Good Morning Kaia? The Antikythera Mechanism is the track from TBU that's been getting the votes because it's the obvious highlight of the album- not necessarily in quality but in profile. It does more and is more memorable than the other tracks, and people who want to represent TBU are going to pick the most memorable track. I wouldn't even call The Antikythera Mechanism particularly uplifting.

It's not so much of a case of the track being some sort of relief from the "experimental and boring" album, it's a case of it being a good showcase track for the album.

And if you liked TAM then at least you should listen to actual musical geniuses in that field, like Rob Dougan, or even better Danny Elfman. Both minds put in misery BTs work.

Yep, got Rob Dougan's album, and I've heard plenty of Elfman in films. Although it's not even the orchestral aspect of TBU that particularly grips me (there's an orchestral section on The Internal Locus as well, which everyone seems to forget)- it's merely a welcome aspect of the record's eclecticism.

People who try and pigeonhole any track on TBU, or even the whole record, to any pre-existing genre aren't looking at the album the right way. Comparing The Antikythera Mechanism to the work of Dougan or film composers is misleading, because the orchestral section is not a simple pastiche of an "epic film score" moment- it cleverly subverts the expectations. Just check out the moment when the orchestra comes back in for the finale- BT never lets the climax occur, breaking the whole thing up and destroying it into a series of glitches.

i was expecting a usual BT track and then instead when hearing this i find an ochestra with these random electronic sounds (get about 4 minutes into it). it just left me wondering WDF??

Yeah, because it's not like BT has ever used classical sounds in his previous work, is it?

Indeed, and that is a shame, although I do consider psy and goa to be types of "real trance."

Noted. But maybe you're inside a minor group who appreciate the tune as a whole. My theory (not a "sheer assumption"), based on the fact that the orchestral part begining around minute 6 on The Antikythera Mechanism is a climax after 1 hour of "soft and experimental sounds", is that most of the people who are voting for the tune are doing so because of the orchestral part. That's why I recommended Elfman and Dougan. But it's just a theory, there would have to be a poll to prove it right? Something like:

"Would you still like The Antikythera Mechanism without the orchestral part?"
RapidFire
^I would most definetly. its got a chill melody and the glitchy IDM sounds (which I usually dont like) are very well placed
The Master
I mean for tune of the year.

Even if they are, that doesn't mean to say they don't "get" the rest of the album. You're making a jump of reasoning from "I like it because of the orchestra" to "I didn't appreciate/understand/have the patience for the preceding album". Which is an assumption.

there are some good tracks here but this list is way too ASOTish

no Ame - Rej, Booka Shade - In White Rooms, Jaytech & Rowan - Tommorow ?

those tracks were huge this year. o well. my vote goes to nostalgia. The original is amazing and the remix is pretty cool too.

Fair enough. They appreciate all the album, but they chose that tune because of the orchestral part.

I voted for it, but I didn't even remember it had an orchestral part.
Gordy
