In Light Of The New Year...

As 2006 comes to a close, we all have gained a lot. No matter how much money, companions, friends, jobs, and family we have lost, we all have gained the experience and the wisdom of an entire year. That is what makes this day so special. We are less naive then we were one year before, and we can all give ourselves a pat on the back for this one success.
Let us not take advantage of our easy living. We look at this new year and most see it another party. We must all pay respect to those who live not year by year, but day by day. Those who are unwillingly risking their lives do to starvation, violence, and lack of shelter. I don't ask you to pray for them, but to remember how good each of our lives our.
That homeless man that you saw when you were going to the coffee shop might freeze to death overnight. That little boy you saw in the latest edition of Newsweek may have starved to death. Your old buddy from High School may have committed suicide this year. It's sad to think about, but it is all true. These things happen outside the safety of the internet.
Party Hard. Party Safe. Have fun. But don't forget the hardships of others. If you can have one resolution next year, you should be selfless and throw the petty individualism out the window.
