what has he done for the scene that a 1000 DJs before him haven't. He has done nothing innovative for the scene....why does everyone think he has done all this great stuff for the scene? |
One big thing he's done is open new ears to electronica (especially in North America) which is a very difficult thing to do given the pop/hip-hop influenced musical landscape we're stuck in. Yes, his popularity tends to attract a crowd that wouldn't normally attend EDM events but the trickle-down effect that benefits other artists shouldn't be ignored. Many non EDMers are dragged to these parties by friends and it opens their :eyes: -- whether they embrace it and learn more about our scene from then on is hit and miss, but, it's a party vibe/experience that I have yet to see provided by another other DJ on such a consistent basis for many years now.
So many DJs these days are hit & miss with their performances - at least with Tiesto parties it's a pretty safe bet that even if the set was nothing special that you can still come away having had a good time. (assuming you had room to breathe that is) |

Many DJs have done the same thing.....Benny B, Paul Oakenfold, Carl Cox....they've all introduced new people to the music in North America.
I agree that he has introduced a lot of new people to the scene but that is nothing new.....I'm not saying he hasn't helped the scene but many would say he has hurt the scene too....by the commercialization of the scene the overall product has deminished....its all about getting out the next big hit as soon as possible....producers are pounding out track after track in hopes that one of them will be a hit.....and that isn't good for the scene. |

It was one song, for christ's sake, let it go already. You all make it seem like listening to 5 minutes of feedback would have been better than listening to one hp-hop song. God forbid you listen to something outside your tight little box of musical preference.

They've done the same thing, except on a much smaller scale. Tiesto's influence alone eclipses all of the DJs you mentioned here combined.

How exactly is producers trying to make hit after hit a bad thing? What is good for the scene in your opinion then? They're not *hoping* their track will be a big hit, they write music that they think a lot of people will like. It's not as easy as you make it sound. |

thats the problem..they are trying to make hits but they put out more garbage then hits....same thing is happening in the hip hop scene......this is nothing new to commercialized music.....don't kid yourself....a lot of the big producers want their tracks to be a hit.....money talks and hits mean money.
Oakenfold has done more for the scene while you were in diapers still then Tiesto ever has or ever will. Carl Cox was an innovator for techno music and Benny B has been on the radio before teiso knew what north america is. |

Also, don't forget the likes of John Digweed, or Sasha. Both of which had a bigger impact on electronic music than Tiesto ever will, in North America, and globally. |

Swamper, you should post way more often. For the few months that I've been a TA I've noticed more garbage posts than good ones. Way too many one-liners and bashing, without people giving solid efforts of explaining their views.
Has it always been like this? |
