I think I may have just hit VSTi gold, any of you all used this site:
http://www.kvraudio.com/get.php
:conf:
There seems to be at least a fair amount of free VST/VSTi's on here - Many with pretty high ratings. |

Dubb's - The high hats are the cymbal sounds you're referring to, and as of yesterday, they're gone ;)

i dont think you need to take them out completely, maybe just tone them down with a filter, eq or just adjust the volume in different places.

Well, to be honest, they were kind of doubled up in the original - So I just eliminated one of them ;)
I also want to "busy-up" the high's a bit, so I'm trying to find some other percussive elements that are compatible.
Thanks loads though for the thoughtful input m8! |

Ben, can you recommend me anything for sequencing drums?
I'm really struggling with creating my own loops to use, and have ended up using a lot of premade stuff. |

| Gonna check this out as soon as I get a chance to DL. I did like the Royksopp edit, though I think these need sponsorship from hornymanatee.com :) |

*raises hand
It used to be kvr-vst.com. I was pretty confused when they changed the url awhile back. Nevertheless its got a pretty big selection, some vsts better than others. To be honest a lot of the stuff I've found there has been garbage but theres a fair amount of solid, usefull tools. |

A couple comments and suggestions from me:
Firstly, nice work.
Your moving biddly biddly synth line with the 16 beat crescendo is cool, but the crescendo sort of just dies at the bar line and then starts up again. I would recommend a bit more release on the end of it or delay so that it sort of lingers over the next crescendo.
With regard to the hat I think it's crucial in the mix in some form, not in the breakdown as others had pointed out obviously, though perhaps you can have some sort of less driving wood block or atmospheric perc with a lot of resonance in that downtime that creates some space. whatever it is it shouldn't be on every offbeat like that.
I can tell it was made in live because of the way everything lines up exactly on bar lines, etc haha. I think for the type of atmospheric music (which I love) you are making it might do well to have the phrases flow a bit more.
I imagine a little more countermelody going on, something clear and crisp to set up a dialogue with your pads. Something light and floating above the pads, ethereal, but flowing and connecting the track more, because right now I hear the loops pretty obviously.
Maybe another thing you can do to fight the loops is to glitch or change them up a bit more with some freer fills. Maybe change up your offbeat hat everyonce in a while too, or use a couple slightly different samples. I wonder how something a little crisper would sound too.
And the last thing I would say you could work on is making the sounds a little lusher in general, some more dynamic contrast, fatter basses, percs with more release and timbre, and perhaps that 'biddly-biddly' part that I described in a rather tongue and cheek way above could modulate a bit more over the course of its phrase to change timbre from something more sawwy to something more liquid and watery. I imagine you could have two lines with slightly different instruments and fade or even pan them over the phrase to get this effect.
anyways sounds good! i like |

remember rjt.... in the end, it doesn't matter how 'technically sound' an artist is.. if they don't have the 'sound' than it's uphill from there
all the criticisms about hihats and whatnot, the most important aspect of any song is the 'melody' for me
best of luck!

I demand ableton parts and asd files for re-h4xing :p
lol, seriously, I dropped this into live last night with the intention of playing it but I got lost in some loops and forgot to warp it. :o |
