Full Interview:

---------------------------------

Elucidate: Hello Sean, thank you for taking the time to do this interview it means a lot to us.

Sean Tyas: Means more to me that you want to do it

Elucidate: Well, to start things off we are interested to know how you got started in producing and remixing.

Sean Tyas: hmmm I ended up buying my first keyboard, the Yamaha an1x back in 2000, and jut kind of went from thereˇK I had a decent pc running cubase vst/24 at the time, but as time went on, need more equipment, so I went and got some other ones like Supernova2, Microwave XTK, Nordlead2, Airbase99, Drumstation, and a few others. Plus started working on a 32 channel Mackie desk (yes I was Visaˇ¦s wet dream). After time and pc hardware got better, I saw the need for less and less hardware. Also had ditched Cubase and went to Logic on a Mac (since then I have switched back to pc but stayed logic).

Elucidate: Your new track 'Lift' and your remixes of 'Silent Tears' and 'On Your Mind' are getting massive play right now. Could you tell us a bit about these tracks?

Sean Tyas: well im just thrilled at the play lift has seen, and its still really fun to play out for me. The Beam remixes I did I'm also loving the fact that people seemed to really enjoy dancing to them.

Elucidate: Breaking Benjamin has been one of our favorite bands for several years now, and your remix of 'Diary of Jane' is absolutely amazing. It sounds like you used the acoustic version of the track for the remix; could you give us some background on this track?

Sean Tyas: Ah no my version is only a rework of Carl B's interpretation of it. I loved what he did on it , and musically the original was really something special. I just wanted a bit harder kick in the ass and a bit edgier overall tone, and viola, that version was born.

Elucidate: In the past year you it seems you have been incredibly busy, both in the studio and on the road. Can we expect the same for 2007?

Sean Tyas: I hope so, a lot of people are telling me to calm down, slow down.. but that. Lazy people is one reason dance music has slowed down itself.

Elucidate: Haha. You were recently (November) in our fair city of S.F. for a show at club 1015. How did the show go, and how did the S.F. fans treat you?

Sean Tyas: My god, I loved it thereˇK Actually I had no idea what to expect from 1015. And the people and the fans were just simply wayyyyyyyy beyond what I could have ever hoped, for any booking, let alone in USA!!! The vibe is second to none, and I really cant wait to meet more SF clubbers.. You guys were all so cool.

Elucidate: Your live sets are very energetic, can you tell us a about your mixing style?

Sean Tyas: I love to do drop mixing, I love how the key changes when u just simply slam the next trackˇ¦s kick in hard. It makes it obvious that the dancefloor energy direction will be starting right up again, for another ride :.

Elucidate: When anyone performs live there are always good nights and bad nights, what makes a show really great for you?

Sean Tyas: Really I just want to see the most people are really having a good time. Hands up with lots of smiles. If I can accomplish that (or if its even already accomplished anyway by default), I'm thrilled and I'm not going to want to leave.

Elucidate: Every artist has a favorite event or show that they have performed. What is yours?

Sean Tyas: Vancouver Canada. Doom's Night Party. 1st time I have played a massive, and that feeling was absolutely lovely. Just a sea of heads and hands!!! Must admit however I was daunted when I arrived, seeing how big it was!!

Elucidate: Awesome! Could you give us a couple of your favorite tracks of 2006?

Sean Tyas: Carl B - V Social Suicide
Ronski Speed - Space we Are (John O'Callaghan remix)
Selu Vibra - Divine

Elucidate: You have done a lot of production work with Michael Urgacz (aka Beam), can you tell us a little about this partnership?

Sean Tyas: It's over. him. You can quote me on that too. Those who have met me know I'm not someone who uses this kind of extreme attitude towards another very often.

Elucidate: Interesting What kind of equipment do you use for your productions and remixes?

Sean Tyas: Currently Just a pc, monitoring with Behringer Truth B2031As, very cheap but rock solid and well at least to me, a very trusted sound.

Elucidate: Your younger brother Ryan is an up-and-coming DJ. What is the story with him?

Sean Tyas: Oddly enough, Ryan spins Progressive and Electro house, and does it extremely well. Ryan is getting into production as well. Based in NY, it's a very appropriate city for him to be.

Elucidate: Great, look forward to hearing more of him. You are originally from the States, but you now live in Europe. How is the European trance scene different then the scene here in the States?

Sean Tyas: hmmmm, I think dance music over all is more integrated into media and culture than in USA, but I think at the moment, dance is looked at with a bit more respectability now in USA (well certainly more than before). But in Europe that ˇ§dance/tranceˇ¨ wave has nearly passed its cycle point, and in USA that little cycle point never really got reached, so you have America doing that slow and steady approach to embracing dance music. But isn't that the way to win the race??

Elucidate: Sean, thank you for taking the time to answer our questions, we are looking forward to your guest mix on our show Sean Tyas: It was my pleasure !!

Gotta love how Sean Voices his opinion on Michael Urgacz:
