Getting ready for Toronto
View this Thread in Original format

Hi everyone. Well, I've basically decided to make a move to Toronto when I get back and really try to involve myself and help support the Toronto trance scene! :)

I've been scrolling through the "event listings" forum looking for recognizable trance acts coming to town. To my surprise, there were very few! :(

So please tell me, have I really been gone that long to see the demise of my beloved trance home become extinct??
I don't see one regular trance night in the city of Toronto. What is going on there? Has the city made a permanent move to house and just don't pull the people anymore?

My initial objective while searching through the Events Listing forum was to contact the TA members associated with trance nights in Toronto and see what the deal was (but that's what I thought). So if anyone can recommend which clubs I'm gonna wanna hit up when I get there, I'd really appreciate it.
I just wanna try and do my part to promote the music I love :D

Trance still draws a huge crowd, but there's barely any noticeable local support for local trance DJs anymore.. the tendancy is that people who are into trance here really only come out for big name acts. Comparatively speaking, there are a number of local TO house DJs that have residencies throughout the city who receive regular support.

Viva is just about the only club I know that receives a steady crowd on a trance night. Guv Spin Sat is another exception but given the variety of music being offered, that's no suprise.

This is why it doesn't suprise me when you see a lot of local trance DJs choosing to 'diversify' their sound by incorporate other elements such as house, electro, techno, etc.

Unfortunately, the sad reality is that it seems if you want to put food on the table, you gotta throw out those trance records. No wonder DJ Kurfew is razor thin!

Why is it that local trance DJs don't get support?

I don't think they are less talented than local house DJs, but it just seems that the only factor really is that house is 'in' and trance is 'out'.

LOL @ the comment directed towards me.:) I was always into other stuff, at least after the first year or two I started being into the scene. I think the support isn't fully there for solely trance nights/djs because trance is basically emotionally involved music (long break downs, long melodies etc) and not the 'party get down' type of vibe house brings.

thats exactly the reason. house has taken toronto by storm.
put a local house dj in a venue that holds 600-800 and i bet the venue would be about 1/4 full at the most. put a local house dj in there and it would be at least double.

What about slammin tech trance?
Where did that go? That is not emo in anyway, imo the best electonic music to dance too, House gets too boring.
