I think the issue is venues Kris. House is agreeable with more venues than trance is. Let's face it, the breakdowns more condusive to trance really only sound good in a large venue with lots of visuals to keep you engaged. Otherwise it's just plain boring. There aren't alot of big stages appropriate for this in Toronto, and the ones that are aren't going to book up and comers. House sounds good in big venues and small lounges.
Besides, trance djs diversifying is only going to be a good thing. Maybe one day we'll be able to kick the genreizing and a dj can transcend the stupid stigmas attached with each category to just play good tunes. |

Marco V is a perfect example of the type of DJ Dennis is talking about here, he throws down some great trance but makes it techy, then he'll throw some house with a techno feel to it. All he does is make you wanna dance, no matter what is on. |

well maybe not trance but minimal and techno is much bigger in most parts of europe than house. it really surprised me how much they love those minimal sounds. even people who just got into electronic music want minimal. you dont see that too often in north america. |

Hi everyone. Well, I've basically decided to make a move to Toronto when I get back and really try to involve myself and help support the Toronto trance scene! :)
I've been scrolling through the "event listings" forum looking for recognizable trance acts coming to town. To my surprise, there were very few! :(
So please tell me, have I really been gone that long to see the demise of my beloved trance home become extinct??
I don't see one regular trance night in the city of Toronto. What is going on there? Has the city made a permanent move to house and just don't pull the people anymore?
My initial objective while searching through the Events Listing forum was to contact the TA members associated with trance nights in Toronto and see what the deal was (but that's what I thought). So if anyone can recommend which clubs I'm gonna wanna hit up when I get there, I'd really appreciate it.
I just wanna try and do my part to promote the music I love :D |
LOL awww Kris, it's probably dying in T.O as much as it is in Oz - as you have seen for yourself.
Even Hellraiser is making his mark in Europe more than your typical trance djs haha.
By the time I get back to T.O you will probably convert to house and techno as well :-) It's the banging, pounding beats that get everyone going! :whip: :eyes: :D |

LOL. I will NEVER convert!!
Sure, many of us have siad that in the past... but true love never dies! ;)
I agree with what I'm hearing for the most part here. That trance is really emotionally involved and you really have to cater to the right crowd. Venue is always a problem when it comes to trance nights... but I'm not even seeing promoters promoting big trance names (granted, I'm only looking at the current event listings forum :p)!
If you bring them, they will come! It shouldn't matter what venue.
Are we all really that pretentious that we'll only go see a certain dj if he's playing at a certain club?
Local trance nights shouldn't be about making money. But playing and hearing music that people love. Does everyone agree?
Should we really be starting to push our Canadian talent? Or shall we sit back and ride off the coat tails of the rest of the world, watching how it's done?
It's really amazing to see how far behind Australia is in this world!! It's quite shocking sometimes :p
But... the one thing that I've experienced here, is that their music scene is stronger than anything I've ever seen.. and it all stems from their local support! |

Oh, and I agree with Urban Legend too... Marco V is the ing king of incorporating genres with his music. Marco's music will never die.
This is exactly how I feel about Sander Van Doorn these days. The man is a machine and knows exactly how to appeal to an uneducated crowd! |

LOL Now you see why I fell in love with Toronto - although we are number 1 when it comes to the hard stuff. ;)
We are crazy mofos though :disbelief :D :eyes: |

What about slammin tech trance?
Where did that go? That is not emo in anyway, imo the best electonic music to dance too, House gets too boring. |

Why is it that local trance DJs don't get support?
I don't think they are less talented than local house DJs, but it just seems that the only factor really is that house is 'in' and trance is 'out'.
|
you'd hafta ask trance fans that. It reminds me of a few years back when "Nu-Skool breaks" was in the 'in' sound here and everyone seemed to be flocking towards that. Then it became Progressive Trance. And then the RJ nomered "DDTT". Then Tribal House. And then juss simply House. What's next? Happy Hardcore?

^^^ oh yeah .. i totally forgot about the influx of ginos factor, whose migration from the now dead Eurodance scene is evident, and increase in playtime of House songs on mainstream radio .. and lest we forget.. the whole bottle service craze.
I think it's attributable to a number of different factors.
