Used to like it alot because it was just different than anything I was used to hearing, and I happen to like repetetive music that focuses more on good sounds and thoughtfull construction. I got bored of the current trance sound, tired of hearing the same old synths and piano and tones being used over and over, just re-arranged, and started listening to more progressive house, eventually techno, minimal and tech house...and now I pretty much listen to all of the above and then some.
My advice to you: welcome to the forum. Dont take anyone too seriously. Listen to what other people have to say so long as they arent cramming their opinion down your neck, and MOST importantly...check out everything electronic music has to offer...because the rabbit hole is deep...

I am 23 and I have been listening to trance for about 8 years now and i absolutely love it. it's like a part of me. (do you guys feel the same). and I reckon I will always love trance. That nice melody, beat and breaks...ahhhhh....
Anyways im currently writing a peice for my Myspcae blog descring why i love trance and i just cant think of anything (probably cause my brains still abit mashed from Saturday ha) i just struggle to put my affection and love for trance into words
So basically im just asking everybody to write a little blurb on just why you love trance! what makes it so special? what makes u travel half the length of your country just to watch a certain DJ play for a few hours!
Look forward to your responses
:)
you a dj, producer? or just a trance lover?
SYSTEM-J
I don't think I can give you a good answer as to why I love it in the first place, but the reason I love it as much as I do is because it lends itself to so many contexts. It works for me in a club, on my speakers or on my headphones, it works when I want to lose my mind and chill, it works when I want something inspirational to write to, it works when I go for a walk and want to set the visuals to some music and of course it works on the dancefloor. It works when I want something summery, something wintery, something lush, something stripped down, something soft, something aggressive. I like it because it can go with techno or breaks or house or ambient. I like it because I can find a trance track to go with just about any context, and I can't yet do that with any other genre.

Because Trance is like Classic Music, requires concentration: It leads us to hypnotic states, listening to a song and filtering all the tiny diverse sounds that compose it. It's not music to think while listening to, but to focus on it, get in another state, a state that can make you cry, or can make you jump for hours.
Just my view.... ok, most of today's sounds don't include the 'another state' part.... but still many of them do...
P.S.: and all this philosophical bull came out while listening to Selu Vibra - Divina :P
I think I just threw up in my mouth a little.
I like trance because... well, I just do. I don't know why.

+1 if I see another post comparing trance to classical I'm gonna flip. Some people have obviously not listened to classical enough...

I like trance for largely the same reasons as System J and some of the others on here. Part of it is because it is the closest music I could find to music I loved in a computer game in the late 90s..Unreal. I like music that is melodic, and trance is more melodic than other forms of electronic music. It's also got a warmth to it, that I don't find in a lot of techno, drum n' bass, hip hop etc. I don't listen to trance as much nowadays, though lately i've gotten back into some of it. This past year, I found music that has a lot of the same qualities I find in trance and is even closer to the melodic ambient-dance compositions in Unreal, like Amethystium. I just love music that is evocative and sparks my imagination...in a sense, inspiring.

Both require some concentration to appreciate, and that's where the similarity ends.
Trance does have some structural similarity to "minimalist classical," but if we're talking about stuff like Beethoven or Mozart, then...no, not similar at all.
