What does all modern day rap lack? Why is it not music.

Most rap artists now a days try to give off the image that they are dangerous, and they make horrible use of the English language.

And? What about the sweet gay rapper that makes perfect use of french? What would be wrong with him?

ty rap artists with no musical inclination.

All rappers work at least with rhythm, which is a key component of music, so they undeniably have a musical inclination.

And the fact that they make millions with their lack of musical talent, just sickens me.

Why, are you a communist?

To answer you SMC, even though you are talking to me in a demeaning way even though i'm giving my opinion, here you go.

Modern day rap lacks that sense of dignity or class. Perhaps it's just me. Maybe i'm just a stupid rich kid. Take what you want from it. But I hate the new age style. People sagging their pants, saying it's cool to act like an idiot(or rather what I think is an idiot, meaning joining gangs or whatever that might be, sorry for generalizing), and I think most rap advocates messages of hate, like "kill dat ******" or "rape dat hoe" or whatever that might be.
Maybe i'm being ignorant, and sorry for that. I just can't stand two kinds of music...rap and country.
As for the french gay rapper...I don't know. O.o
They have rhythm, but it's also about songs that have meaning. Not just bragging about how much money you have or how many "bitches" you have. It's generalizing, but that's all i hear when the radio is turned on.

And no, i'm not a communist...but i really dislike our capitalistic society. I'm not a fan of big corporations making lots of money while there is a bunch of not so well off people. But that's my own deal.

When I say talent, i'm strictly referring to the artists ability to write either fun or meaningful lyrics in a rhythmic fashion while keeping either a simple or complex beat, but still maintaining a GOOD, strong vocal base.

LYRICS??! GOOD VOCAL BASE??!

:stongue:

Please, tell me that you're not trying to justify preferring trance over pop on that basis. That would be too rich. Lyrics in trance songs are either puerile or vague / incoherent.

Britney Spears has a terrible voice. She doesn't even write her own music.

I agree. But there really aren't that many great voices performing in trance, either.

quote:
Some rap artists write their own music, which is somewhat respectable, but their vocals are really bad(in my opinion), and their lyrics hold no meaning to society. How does "rapin' dat bitch" or whatever hold ANY good value or meaning? I know i'm generealizing, but when i hear RAP (not R&B), I hear nothing but messages of hate. How is that talent?

I think you really need to listen a lot more. Even the popular stuff you deride isn't nearly as monolithic as you portray it. Even the super-popular rap artists aren't all about glorifying the "gangster" lifestyle, although that isn't readily apparent from the songs that get radio play.

Well, at least the Trance I listen to, I think there is some great vocal quality. Although perhaps some if it might not be considered Trance, but I think the vocal quality is there. I know i'm bringing it up again for no reason, but ever listen to Delerium? That's the kind of music i'm thinking when I say good music. Great vocals, and a good sense of emotion. And perhaps not everyone is into that type of music, and I can accept that.

And I suppose you are right. i'm going off based solely what I have heard on the radio. I don't care enough about rap to go buy any CDs.

But I disagree. There are a lot of great vocals in Trance. It just depends on what Trance you listen to.

Hate me or love me that is the question?

As you can probably tell I'm not much of a fan of vocals in trance. When there are vocals in a song it totally loses the "entrancing" vibe for me, and I end up paying attention to the vocals involuntarily, even if I try not to.

The human voice does that to most people, I think. Try reading and getting much out of it when someone is standing beside you and talking to you and trying to tell you something.

Anyway, each to his own.

Hmmm? I'm Perplexed by what you say. Are you saying that for the sake of saying that, or are you stating you think I have a complex where I want to feel accepted or that kind of stuff? I definitely don't think that's the case. Or perhaps i'm reading too much into your post.

Either way. I'm gonna stop trolling now. >.>

Perhaps you're right, that the human voice can be distracting from the task at hand, but sometimes in can be the actual entrancing part of the song. Depending if their voice is that of almost siren like proportions. But that doesn't happen often. <3's Kristy Thirsk. =)

But yah, i'm gonna stop ragging on rap now. It's my opinion. I shouldn't be trying to force that on others. To each their own indeed.

Is your opinion the one disguised as statements about the nature of things?

quote:

Modern day rap lacks that sense of dignity or class.

And what meaning do vague notions as dignity and class have in the world of music?

quote:

but that's all i hear when the radio is turned on.

I dislike all music i hear on the radio. With your line of reasoning i should therefore assert all music is .

People not so well off exist because the primary mechanism for raising people out of poverty, the market, is perpetually being destroyed by the state. There is no such thing as a capitalistic soiciety in our world, and big corporations are hardly good examples of capitalism. So you got the wrong guy.

Because they benefit from a wide range of state regulation at the expense of smaller entrepreneurs and ordinary people. They are granted government-enforced monopolies in the form of intellectual property. They are not as sensible to things like wage control as smaller entrepreneurs are, and therefore they automatically take advandatage of the fact that competion is being kicked out of the market by the state raising the entry level. They contract with the state, which means your money is being stolen from you and ends up in the pockets of companies you never had any dealings with whatsoever. Many companies operate systems of infrastructure which in the beginning many times to some extent, big or small, were funded, built, controlled or sponsored by the state, which by definition never can be the legitimate controller of anything. That means certain areas of the market, because of the state, not necessarily have to correspond to what the demand of the consumers would have looked like on an untampered market. These are only a few examples. However this is not necessarily the nature of a big corporation, but it is the shape they take on in the statist conditions of our time. Instead of pure market entrepreneurs they become political entrepreneurs seeking to turn the co-existence with the state into a benefit and maximizing it.
