Almost 16 years after the original release on their own ´´Holy Ghost Inc.´´ imprint ´´Mad Monks On Zinc´´ is reborn in the company of two fantastic interpretations by Adultnapper and Martin Buttrich

the limited edition is only available for a short time and comes as a double 12inch including the original track while the later released normal release comes as an single 12inch without the original mix of Mad Monks On Zinc.

Original
Adultnapper remix
Martin Buttrich remix

solid solid rerelease and fine choice of remixers. What a beautiful record.

Wow, I haven't heard this track in a while. Love it!! Def one of my favs, I remember trying to find the vinyl when I first started spinning :p

Martin Buttrich is on fire at the moment, love his stuff on Poker Flat as well as his remix of Tracey Thorn. Definitely need to pick this one up!

Vinyl only release? That'd be a shame (and a pretty foolish business move IMO).

Both Buttrich an the Adultnapper mixes sound great :)

One day, I'm quite sure you'll choke on your vinyl. :p

And it's not like they'll make any money on a vinyl release - just gimmie what I want! :whip:

Review

„From a time when there were few „rules“ in the production of dance music, this track combines all sorts of elements that were heard in the music of the time. Subtle use of a sampled breakbeat, layered over the deep pulsing kick, give the track an irresistible energy on the dancefloor. This carries the listener while the gorgeous heavy atmospherics completely entrance them. The use of a simplistic single hit piano line at a couple of points could put the integrity of the track in jeopardy, but it‘s not so cheesy and lasts for a short enough time that once the deepness kicks back in it just forms a strange memory, like passing lights leaving a fading trace on the retina. At the track‘s climax the „drainpipe“ sounds rise up again, and are for a few seconds enveloped in one of the most intensely beautiful synth washes I‘ve ever heard. You want that moment to last forever, but as quickly as you have been lifted up, you are dropped straight back into the beat, and that snappy break sample sets you off again.“ (max duley @ discogs.com)The track “Mad Monks On Zinc” has been on Tobias Lampe‘s memory of a glorious clubnight in the very early 90‘s at the legendary “Planet” in Berlin. When Sven Väth played out this track he was freaking out on the dancefloor, but asking Sven for the track’s name didn’t lead to success, as Sven pointed on the record with a grin: the 12″ only had a big question mark on it!Finally Tobias got a copy of that record during one of his regular record-huntings in Soho, but it wasn‘t until 1999 when he finally discovered the actual artist & title. At this time Holy Ghost Inc. were better known for true splendid Techno with releases on e.g. Berlin‘s Tresor label than for their early 90‘s releases, when „cutting edge DJs like Andrew Weatherall were pioneering the Holy Ghost Inc.‘s “Mad Monks On Zinc", the fourth and best in a series of deeply underground, eclectic EPs“ (Mixmaster Morris in Mixmag 1992).Now, almost 16 years after the origina

It is limited rerelease with remixes. I think it makes it more special, but thats just me. I dont want to go into my stance on digital vs vinyl.

I dont see this coming to beatport in the next weeks kids.. so get thy vinyl. It would make a great first piece in anyones starting collection.

The format doesn't make anything special - the content does.

It's not as if this is going to remain "vinyl only," within days HQ copies will be circulated throughout the intertubes.

Why labels shoot themselves in the financial foot like this these days, I'll never understand.
