Though this may surprise you greatly, there are actually other cities in the world other than Melbourne. I find the fact that Australia's dance music has leaned towards the harder styles to be greatly disappointing, thus, why I don't go clubbing much any more. When I do, I would much rather go to a breaks night these days, rather than watch a bunch of wits dance around in an amphetamine fuelled frenzy, to music that I find dull and tasteless.
All of this is, of course, my opinion. I do, however, reserve the right to have one. |

This is completely off-topic to everything, ever, but I keep seeing this phrase a lot. Is it a typo or is it a dialectical variation of "couldn't care less"? |
I believe the reasoning is that "could care less" was at one time intoned as to be interpreted as an irony, but that it evolved in meaning.
Semantics are weird. |

| By the way, shouldn't TA be devolving in this sense? I'd hate to think that jaded wits would make a place more evolved. That'd be sad. |

Evolution goes down, man. It was "The Descent of Man" for a reason.
And good God, Darwin was a fearsome motherfucker:

Lately I've been getting the impression that TA is slowing evolving into a community with a steadily increasing number of insufferable, grouchy and jaded know-it-all musical missionaries that want to 'educate the masses' about 'real music' and actively criticize those who in their eyes, have inferior taste and/or have not yet explored other avenues of music for whatever reasons.
This criticism is particularly directed towards TA newcomers who have barely got their hands dirty and for obvious reasons, explore tried-and-tested avenues such as ASOT/TATW and the like.
Understandably, there is so much more to electronic music than the usual perperators or shall I say 'diluters' a la Sean Tyas /Armin Van Buuren/Above & Beyond/...you know the rest but,
what is beyond me is :
- What gives these 'missionaries' the right to openly criticize somebody who's just ventured into exploring electronic music? Is he/she in the wrong for the type of music they've chosen to explore?
- Why do so many of these missionaries think that they're indispensable pillars of the EDM community. As if, if they were to vanish into thin air one day, an acopolypse would obilerate EDM off the face of this earth and all hope for it's revival would be lost. Are they that self-absorbed and deluded into thinking that their loss would be an irrecoverable one?
- I've also come across a large number of stubborn newbies who refuse to broaden their musical horizons. With good intentions in mind, it is then that these missionaries again go on a crusade to actively rectify these newbies. If these newbies want to stay in a fool's paradise and be complacent, why aren't they just left alone? Why do the missionaries relentlessly continue to flog a dead horse?
Why not concentrate on those who are open to suggestions and are not afraid to be experimental?
What started off as a friendly, multi-cultral and global community to share opinions and knowledge about electronic music is gradually mutating into a quagmire where, defaming and passing judgement on each other in front of all and sundry are the order of the day. |
You've probably summed that up better than I ever could. I agree 100%
