the "auditory" people like you, most of the time love the "john digweed" style.
the "visual" people prefer a DJ like tiesto. |

Well, I dont mind either way. If the DJ is jumping up and down and having fun, thats cool too. Its just not of much importance to me. |

| idk maybe thats why some people are so obsessive with tiesto, cuz he's on stage doin sign language and other random bs. everyone looks at it like a circus event and doesnt concentrate on wuts really goin on in the booth |

It depends on who you ask.
Some people need this to help them enjoy the music and vibe:

Thats John Digweed btw. |
Nice pics.
I don't think that it's essential AT ALL to have the DJ physically or visually interacting with the crowd. Dancing, waving his/her arms/whatever. I couldn't care less, and rarely look at the DJ while dancing.
But I HOPE any DJ would be keeping his/her eye on the dance floor, and gauge people's reactions the the tunes they are playing. I've been to SO MANY gigs where a couple of crap tunes in a row will empty the floor. This sucks, not only for the clubbers, but for the DJ, and the club owner and promoters as well.
I think that some of the more wicked DJs are nimble enough to not only play the kind of music they wish to play, but to go about doing so in a way that is reactive to the crowd they are hoping to (and being paid to) entertain.
If a DJ isn't able to think on the spot, and change their set as necessary, they might as well record the set before the gig, and just play it straight from the player. A jukebox. |

| well then according to fatboy slim, when I saw pvd a few years ago in Nyc, was being a "bad" dj b/c for the msot part he was focused jsut what he was spinnin and not really looking up. But he rocked the night, so I'm kind of seeing flaws in this statement of his. |

And dude, if you need to buy a book about "How to DJ Properly" then I'm thinking you may not have much of a feel for it :conf: |
You dick.
It's supposed to be a very good read regardless of your skill level. |

Actually, club owners love this. Less people on the dancefloor means more people at the bar.:p |

You are there FOR the crowd, so yeah, it's important to look at them. You are there to make them dance. Unless you can hear the screams and claps, looking at them is a helpful indicator of how well you're doing your job.
That being said I saw Mr. Cook last year in Madrid, and he played a very mehhh set. |

This past Thursday I saw Hisham Samawi @ Prana in Jordan. From what I heard, Samawai was supposed to be pretty good, multiple residencies in Dubai, ect.
He played some ok music, but his interaction was ! Completely pokerfaced the entire gig. I was up in the booth checkin out his mixin style, and yea, not bad at all, but the fact remains that his lack of energy killed it for me. I'm not sayin you gotta wave an imaginary wand around to Moonlight Party (as tiesto is known to do), but you can at least smile, throw your hand up to the beat, SOMETHIN.
Interaction is 1/2 the performance. |
