MOST over-rated piece of crap ever... he was FAT for christ sake... the last 3 years of his career... he came in when they were on the friggen goal line...

Bus played 3 seasons TOO many...

I USED to applaud the guy for being fat and being a RB... then he just kept staying in the league...

key to a great RB... KNOW when to retire!

I compare everyone to Barry... so, RIP Sweetness, but I take Barry Sanders everyday over any RB...

if LT plays another 5 years, he could be the best ever... but I can definately see him pulling a Terrell Davis and BYE BYE... he can't last forever, and the way the Chargers need him, no way a little guy like him can last that long... BUT if he can... he'll be the best ever... no doubt... but Barry is a better runner than LT will ever be.... but LT will be the better overall RB... ok I'm done... thanks!

I'm glad so may others feel its Barry Sanders - he got my vote.
But it seems almost every player, especially that generation, all believe
Jim Brown is the best footbal player ever, not just RB.
I cant say cause i never saw Jim Brown play, but his stats ARE crazy.

Either way, pretty safe to say Brown and Sanders are the 2 best ever

did you ever happen to watch a Bears game from 1975-1987?

I doubt most of you even remember watching Walter Payton play and NOBODY here has seen Jim Brown. This whole thing is biased because none of us have a balanced perspective.

Jerome Bettis? Emmitt Smith? Come on people. They shouldn't be getting any votes on this.

Saw this poll late, too bad.

1. Barry Sanders

Detroit's offensive line was GOD AWFUL! Freaking awesome I love Barry Sanders. Carried those ty teams into the playoffs. Can you remember any of his QB's? Scott Mitchell? Charlie Snatch? You get the point.

2. Jim Brown

Stats kind of speak for themselves and most of the NFL greats say he was the best so I can't argue too much.

3. Bo Jackson

Laugh if you will but he was the best athlete I ever saw. He had 4.3 speed in a massive muscular 230 lb frame. Ran by and ran through you. Thing is, he split half the season playing baseball and never really showed his true potential. 2nd most electrifying RB football player I've ever seen besides Barry. I was always just waiting for him to go the distance....

Bettis? Agree with Lance. He was a fat tub of goo. Got the ball and fell down after like 1 yard...carry after carry. What a joke to even include him on the list. Oooohhh goal line specialist. Please.

dude, Bo Jackson over Sweetness Walter Payton?

Even more evidence people in this thread were too young to have seen Payton. You could always do some video searching too.

Average yards per carry over their careers:

Bo 5.4
Sweetness: 4.4

Sweetness only had one season over 4.8

lol

And....best video game athlete ever. You can't neglect that fact...

I used to watch Bo & i even saw the game he went down. He was one of my favorite players back then for baseball & football. But too bad he didnt play long enough. Plus Bo was no where was good as Payton with recieving & blocking.

but man, Payton played on some TY TY TY teams in the mid to late 70s, plus it's not fair to compare a guy who only missed ONE game in his 12 year career to somebody who played 3 seasons. As I said, none of us here actually remember the guys before Bo Jackon, Smith and especially Barry Sanders.

Trust me, if Walter Payton had played in the 90s, you'd all be sucking his cock.;)

lol but actually I'm 30 years old dude. I'm ancient in comparison to you guys on here. I clearly remember him playing. Eric Dickerson was pretty tight too since I'm a Rams fan. Still holds the single season rushing record and had 3 years in a row over 1800 yards. But no question Sweetness was a better RB, especially for longevity, receiving, and blocking. I'm more just stoking the flames for fun. But Bo in terms of pure talent, was amazing. We just never saw the full force...
