Game nerds... I need your advice!

My roomie and I like to play games together on our laptops. We mostly have been playing age of empires, and age of mythology... but they are starting to get a little boring, and require a little too much concentration when we're both tired.
So... I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for good games that can be played as a team, or against each other on our PC's. |

| Hmmm, I guess I should also mention that we don't want to have to pay to play the game (we intend on downloading a copy), so if the games have to have a subscription or something... we wont get it. |
