I don't plan on purchasing it until I get it pre-installed with a new computer, but I'm curious what the opinions are of those who have bought it.

Thats good news for me being someone in electronics retail, also being too lazy to look up the price myself.

I think most people will wait until they're ready to upgrade to a new pc.
Came across this comic the other day, thought it was quite funny:

I would also like some info from current Vista users on how it is.

I am not looking to upgrade a current PC. Rather, I have been looking for a new laptop for about a year now and now that I am almost certain as to the make and model I want (Sony Vaio - AR320E), it only comes w/ Vista pre-installed now. I dont want to make a bad decision as its taken me alllll this time to finally decide the laptop that I want. Buyers remorse is a huge deal w/ me.

Thanks for the help...

Im running vista Ultimate with no problems, paid 200 for a OEM copy from newegg. Some of the features are very nice, while it still has a few bugs and a few of the drivers I have dont work 100%. Id say this is a very strong release, just a shame that it took windows so long to catch up with OSX.

I'd also like to note this is coming from someone who is a experienced user, I'm running linux and OSX along side my PC machine for various reasons. I wouldn't recomend this upgrade unless you are somewhat experienced and dont mind tinkering, as there are a few bugs and numerous new features, almost to the point of being to many. And without the proper setup, they could cause problems.

The OEM version of Vista is cheaper, But keep in mind, That OEM versions of them are tied to the motherboard. They will not let you install on a new system. Like if you were to built to install a brand new motherboard, You would need to buy another copy of the OEM. The retail versions are always better if your someone who would upgrade to new motherboards a year or so later.

Dont tell microsoft that, as ive used oem copies for a long time now and I go through parts like there is no tomorrow. Just a pain when you have to speak to a guy in india to get the serial, as I can never understand them.
