Okay, so an HTML tutorial was taking way too long and too much effort (haha, I'm lazy), so I just recorded some video in Photoshop. (Just realized I probably could have just recorded an action in Photoshop... oh well.)

I've created three different parts:
1. Pen Tool Usage (general overview)
2. using the pen tool to trace things
3. using the pen tool to create selections/mask objects

The above links are to Photobucket, which converted the videos to flv (flash video format), which are universally compatible (provided the user has Flash installed). It also down-sampled the video, so it may be a bit small. The original videos (avi, encoded with xvid) are also available.

Surly just use Illustrator, or some other vector program?
AnomalyConcept
Ideally, yes, but I haven't gotten around to learning how to use Illustrator.

A Letter sized (default paper size here in the US) document @ 300px/in works in a pinch, though.
Pheobius
imo you should stop using photoshop for this kind of stuff, nothing in the above image should ot be vector graphics, and while learning Illustrator is a bit more difficult to get your head around (probably cos people are just used to pixel graphics) it is well worth it.

for example (and this only took me about 15 minutes to knock up)

I understand the difference between raster and vector graphics (theory).

It's just that I haven't had the time to learn how to use the program (implementation).
