i'm looking to find out what kind of synth is used on the main lead and the filtering synthline in DJ Jan & Christophe Chantzis' remix of Theme From Norefjell? it has very distinct oscillator- and filter characteristics which i think is great for trance. i believe it's a Roland synth, perhaps a Juno or something?

(lo-fi) sample from Chemical Records

perhaps we shouldn't allow people to post threads like this without a sample ?

Allied Nations lets make this a rule please?

wow sorry for breaking your rule, man. i didn't post a sample because that would infringe with the copyrights, and also because i am unable to record the sample from vinyl to mp3. i just assumed "everyone" would have heard this track one time or another, or that those who have could answer my post. but ya, i can see if i can find some sample from an online vinyl shop or something

i'm not trying to be a dick man but this is the only production forum i'm part of that doesn't have this rule.

we're happy to help but i've never heard the song and that doesn't mean i don't know how to make it, i just don't know what it sounds like.

you can post a soundbyte of 10seconds and that will usually be enough to tell you some parts of the synth(disregarding lfo automation, modulation, etc). Or post 1 phrase of the melody for full help.

I dont know which synth this is but I bet you can come pretty close to this with z3ta+.

thanks for the replies, peeps. i've gotten a few different suggestions: access virus, z3ta+ vsti, wasp vsti.. i've tried to recreate the feeling with alot of different synths but i haven't managed to do that yet. sent a message to Chantzis himself, if he can't answer this, nobody can :)

stunning track by the way! brings back good memories.

i think it is probably a sample based workstation. like a trumpet sound with efx. you could make this almost unrealistic 'trumpet' sound on a dx7 i think - cos it reminds me of a yamaha fm sound trying to mimmic a trumpet or something.

btw, what i find really amusing about this remix, is that it hasn't got any similarites to the original, not the chord progression, none of the hooks, and not the best part of the original, the ufo sonar thing at the beginning..

why not release it as an original track???

pretty close, dude. how about sylenth1's filter section? do one of the filtering synthline too, cause that's the main synthline i'm after recreating :D also, if anyone ever used Rave eJay back in the days, a lot of those synth loops were created with the same synth i'm looking for
