im thinking of going to dc in march for a couple of days to see all the sights and do all the tourist things since i've never been and its only a 3.5 hour drive from me....
- what would be a good place to stay in DC, or just outside dc?
- any good websites to check out?
- any good bars or lounges to go to during the week?
- anything special to see?

Well its not so great down here
I will say Club FVE is probaly then only good club around. Glow has the worst crowd EVER and terrible sound
Its cheaper if you get a hotel in Arlington or Falls Church which is very close to DClike a 10 minute ride I would say.
In DC theres alot museums to check out. The Washington Monument and near is the Harbot were they sell a bucn of seafood.
Theres Tysons Corner Mall which has many great stores and Potomic Mills mall also but its a far drive. |

Don't get a hotel in DC, get one in either Maryland or Virginia (southern Montgomery County is nice to stay at). If you're not driving, try to find a place the closest you can to DC.
There just too many museums to list, but no matter what, make sure you check out the Smithsonian Air and Space museum. The Holocaust Museum is one of my favourites as well. All museums are free, except for (I think) the Spy Museum. The Corcoran is also one of my favourite places.
As far as clubs go, Five and Dragonfly have the best music, if you go down on the weekend. There's also Indebleu, Pasha, Chroma during the week... but I didn't really like the ones I checked out. There's also some party in Virginia that I've heard has been having its crowd. |

what's with all the dc hatred in here? seriously. derangedmind- you have been talking so much on dc the past few years, why don't you just move? sorry but i ing love dc and NO ONE's gonna talk on my city. :D
DEFINITELY stay in the city...staying in va or md is like staying in the suburbs. when i go to nyc, i sure as hell don't stay in the burroughs. anywhere in NW you will be fine.
georgetown is AWESOME for shopping and dining. midtown is great for cocktails/clubs as there is a whole "triangle" of lounges, bars, and clubs all around each other. bars and lounges stay open till 3 on weekends and clubs stay open as late as 5. fur isn't bad...it has improved a lot and brings solid talent. five is a very unique, chill spot and has one of the only rooftop smoking lounges in the city (dc just went on the smoking ban).
there are a ton of galleries, monuments, tours, etc etc you can take. washington has such a diverse culture and beautiful scenery if you look in all the right places.
but please, don't listen to these dc haters...they really don't know . i live here.
pm me if you need any info!! :) |

I'm not hating DC, I just prefer my life here, but I didn't even mention anything of that sort, Erin. If I hated DC I wouldn't go as often to visit.
I lived there too, remember?
I did the tourist thing again last week with my boyfriend when I was visiting my mum. I've gone down to DC to see museums, art galleries and monuments so many times, and no matter how many times it's been, I always liked it, and try to do it as often as I can.
And what I said about staying outside DC, if you are driving, maybe could be ok. Driving in DC might be a bad idea during the day and taking the metro would be the best option, but if you want to go out at night, having a car to drive can be good. It would also depend on your budget too since sometimes a hotel outside DC is cheaper and you would still have to take the metro anyway if you stay in the city.
and forgot to warn you about cabs. Zoning in DC is very weird when cabs charge for the fare. It's not like here in NYC. Many friends have ended up paying too much for a short cab ride.
Now excuse me, I'm going to see Trentemoller ;) |

ah. i guess i have must have misunderstood! it's just that every time i see you, you are constantly talking about what dc "doesn't have" and what "new york has." it just always seemed like you didn't like the place. glad to hear you do, i do too! :) |

Just go to Marriott.com and stay at either the JW Marriott, Metro Center, Renessance, Convention Center or Courtyard (on F Street). All of those Marriotts are fair priced and within walking distance of all museams and monuments. You want to avoid driving. Just park your car in the hotel parking and walk or cab it. Cool clubs include Five (anynight), Glow (Saturdays, clubglow.com Armin, Guetta, R Sanchez in March) and cool lounges Lima, Ultrabar, Eyebar, Fly and 1223. Except for Glow and Five most of the lounges are Free admission (dress code, 21+).
DC IS OFF THE HOOK!!
