Byron Bay, Australia!

Hey all,
I'm heavily contemplating moving out to Byron Bay to go to SAE. I know it's not major city with megaclubs or anything, but I'm definitely gonna need my house/trance/progressive fill in some way or another. So what's going on out there as far as that goes? Any clubs? nights? raves? underground parties around that area dedicated to that scene?
Also, any reviews or personal experiences at SAE? I'm planning on doing the full audio engineering course just because I have a sickness for music production and I want to know all the ins and outs. I've waited far too ing long to make a big decision like this and now's the time... I just want to know what to expect!
Appreciate all your help mates ;) |

Most overrated place in Australia.

The Only place you will find some electronic music is c-m00g's club there, otherwise its commercial bars type stuff..
they get some pretty good acts there, i was at that place over NYE one year for Rodger Sanchez ages ago... but i didnt know who he was lol
also, The Great Northern had sonic animation there which was mad fun!
its a fun place, great beach!
i go once every couple of years |

Well that's a huge contrast in opinions if I ever heard one! Why do you think it's a hole??? The pics look amazingly nice...
More input from you all reading this please! |

Far from being a "hole" in my eyes .. I really like Byron and ive enjoyed myself every time ive been there on holidays but obviously living there is a different story. Pub scene-wise, there is an assload of to do, like putting it in the pooper of drunken backpacker floozys, but clubwise, in contrast there isnt too much activity but its not totally void .. last time i was there i saw Mike Monday at this club called Play .. there is also a club there called La La Land which gets some of the better known acts that happen to swing by that way (it could be La La Land at Play for all i know, actually Play might not even be the name of the club i saw Mike Monday in, couldve just been the name of the night heh) .. I know that La La Land is somewhat affiliated with Onelove.
SAE courses are pretty solid from what i can gather .. one of my mates finished his course a couple of months ago and he is a pretty daft dude and knew sweet all about anything production related but he is now a wizz with logic and can produce stuff that actually sounds decent. |

It's a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't wanna live there.
I also heard there's a bit of a psytrance scene there (all those hippies in one place after all), but I'm not sure on that. |

| La La Land was the only decent club there...I just found that there were too many rednecks there... |

| Phil K played at The Great Northern a few weeks back - sounds like they get quite a few artists passing through there. |

I love Byron Bay, it's been my favourite east coast town to visit on holidays for many years. That said...probably a different story to live there.
I saw Judge Jules for $15 there a few years ago, it was hilarious. He dropped Misjah & Tim - Access and played robocop samples as an acapella over it. Good times.
I remember C-Moog from wayyyy back. It used to be called the Carpark and contained all sorts of sketchy characters in there :) |
