I just got a notice in my university email. It doesn't sound like much, hardly even a slap on the wrists, but has anybody else had experience with this? Has anybody had multiple infringements?

Yeah, well I was using bittorent, which I always use (and thought was impossible to get busted on). It sucks cause I was downloading a stupid Neil Young documentary for a friend, which is what I got busted for. Correct me if I'm wrong, but if I solely use limewire, where I can block my sharing all together, you can only get in trouble for sharing. Correct?

incorrect. They can go after you for downloading as well. They can sue who ever they want. If you will cost you ALOT either way...even if you do win. It will take years of court time, just to cover attonery fees from the RIAA even if you do win

It need not necessarily happen ofcourse. Most of the time they will give a warning or something.

Just got one of those the other day. I just burned the movie onto a dvd and then deleted it and that was that. I signed up for Netflix, though, as I don't know what I'd do with myself if they kicked me off the network.

dont worry, dude if its first time getting it, it should be just a warning, i remember in my first semester of college, me and my roomate went happy go lucky with downloading , and even thought we blocked off all the sharing in our limewire settings, our schools IT people somehow tracked us down... anyways... they gave us a warning and made us delete the files.
