That must be why he urged and supported the Iraqi Shiites to rise up and overthrow him.
Good point, though how well were they supported once they rose up? I wouldn't be surprised if there was some degree of lingering shia hostility towards the US for not supporting them as much as they maybe could have. Saddam's quelling of their uprising was swift and harsh, but wouldn't that have been the case for any world leader being overthrown by force from an internal resistance group? No world leader would quietly sit back and let people just take control by force.
I think that the Shia were used as guinea-pigs to see how stable Saddam's government really was. If the Shia could overthrow him, and maintain stability without a foreign occupier, than power to them. It had the potential to accomplish the end goal, but without the cost & sacrifice of one's own troops.

Start systematically sniping them, beheading them, kidnap and kill them.. or whatver it takes. I just hope this killing of US soilders never stops and they keep US engaged in Iraq. Because the moment this stops and peace returns; US will go for Iran.

Basically everyone knows the Iraq war was a mistake...
quote:
Mr. Bush’s overall approval rating has fallen to just 28 percent, a new low, while more than twice as many (64 percent) disapprove of the way he's handling his job.
Two-thirds of Americans remain opposed to the president's plan for sending more than 20,000 additional U.S. troops to Iraq — roughly the same number as after Mr. Bush announced the plan. And 72 percent believe he should seek congressional approval for the troop increase.
A majority of the people don't approve of this war. More people are accepting that Iraq may not have been such a good idea. Personally, I think Bush went in illegally. But guess what. We're stuck there like Vietnam. Entangled. This country's politics is so mired because the discussion is always about the past. I think after the administration is done, more information will come to light.
We need to think about a solution, of how to restore our standing with the world, and extract ourselves from the Middle East. But then, you have the problem of the power vacuum in Iraq, the Israel/Palestine conflict, and Iran's chase for nuclear enrichment. From today is where we are at. Think forward. How do you think we should conduct ourselves from here forward? I don't care how much you hate Bush and want all American soldiers to die.
You two are just ed up. I get opposition to Bush and Iraq, but not death on someone else. Karma, you live by the sword, you die by it, you get what you give. You wish death on them, death be wished on you.

How do you expect someone to oppose a war without opposing the soldiers?
I always found the "I oppose the war but support troops" to be one of the most two-faced and assinine things ever uttered.
I oppose the war, and therefore by definition I oppose the troops that prosecute the war and nothing is going to make the war end sooner than enough American soldiers getting shot up to a degree where American public finally says "Enough! Enough!"
At least I don't lie to myself about it, like the two-faced sycophants.

Is it just me or the two of you guys sound so much alike yet believe you are so different in making such statements. Ironic.

I don't see a problem with being against war and being supportive of troops. If anything, being anti-war supports the troops more than pro-war people. Less casualties that way. You definitely don't have to want troops to die to be against the war, although there seems to be a lot of that around here.

I will say this once again the problem with the war in Iraq is not the American soldiers the problem is the leadership that created the war in the very first place. The soldiers are obviously a tool of that as in any war, however the basis, policy formulations and current consequences of the Iraq conflict rests with a decrepit leadership in my own nation, that seemed wholly arrogant of Iraq and history as a starting point.
For example Purple says if the U.S. troops aren't engaged in Iraq they will go for Iran next, obviously he means the political leadership will do that because no soldier can go to Iran by himself.
Douglas Macarthur wanted to go into China during the Korean War and had to be removed from his command by Harry Truman, its the politicians that make the decisions in the end.

You idiot! You need to take a class in world history.
There have been tons of nations holding the same speech throughout history and always believing that they could be the leaders forever ... yet where is the Roman Empire today? ( sorry had to give you the easiest example ).
That old world domination ploy :stongue: :stongue: :stongue:
The world turns, the wheel goes up and down and one day the Usa will fall ...

Where is the Roman Empire? In Italy. How about...where is the Russian Empire? That is in the history books.
Oh and I can tell you that calling people idiots doesn't do much harm. Perhaps you could try and be original or creative but not both because than I would be disappointed:rolleyes:  :o :( :(
