Ok. I admit that I don't like Thomas Datt productions, so take my opinion with a big ing block of salt.
I like euphoric trance which this Distance tune is, and is actually quite decent. But it's same Thomas Datt style for like last 2 yrs. Not much of originality. Compare it with 2v2 (which is ok) and similar structure, pads, whatever. |

Are you sure that it is working?
While this is very arguable, the general trend (at least on this board) is that many former trance addicts are turning into househeads (myself being one of them) while some are going techno.
Those of us who have been listening to trance for few years are sick of same ASOT/TATW sound that's been beaten to death, resurrected then beaten to death some more. Yeah, it may still sound cool to those who are recent to trance scene, but for a lot of us, it's just that same, generic sounding stuff that bores us to death. At least older uplifting trance has a degree of originality.
Don't get me wrong. I still enjoy a good dose of hands in the air trance (and many of us had a fantastic time at the Docks on Sat), but it's not something I want to listen to all the time. Not until trance starts to be the innovating and original sound it used to be. |

You seem to blame this on the quality of Trance, but you are simply going through what every original Trance lover goes through. The reason why you love the older stuff is simply due to the initial memories you have attached with them. It's been observed time and again that people naturally stray from Trance into House, or Techno. It just happens. It certainly isn't due to the quality of Trance. When you came into trance, I am sure you spent some time obsessing over ASOT/TATW. Now you have decided its time to look at other genres and move on. Tis merely the cycle making its way. |

Actually no, I was never a big ASOT or TATW fan. While I did enjoy Armin and A+B from 02 to about 04, I was never gaga over them. (I was a ferry whore through and through)
It's not that there isn't quality trance; it's just so much junk out there that it is hard to find the quality stuff and ASOT and TATW has bored me for most part, except for occasional good tunes, but those IMO are far rare and finding good trance nowadays.
Quality over quantity and people see too much junk to see the gems hidden among them, esp. with so many big name trance DJs spinning the similar tunes.
Don't get me wrong. I still love trance and I enjoy spinning trance. While there are many factors why I'm getting more distant from trance and more into house and techno, my perception of quality of trance last 2 yrs or so has really turned me away from trance for most part. |
