I was making a cue for this mix and it really let me see how amazing this mix is. Of course I knew it was good on first listen, but I had to study the mixing during transitions to mark each new track start.
I usually mark a new track when the DJ has completely finished mixing out the previous track, but when doing that for this mix, incoming tracks were about half way done before the mixing ended. Howells was pulling off mind ing mixing, sometimes 3 tracks at a time (I think). And this was constant, almost every mix.
Really inspires...makes you think how much credit some DJ's deserve from their plain and simple phrase mixes (which is sometimes good).
Tiesto #1, rofl... |

what do you mean by "tong-less"? he's not mixing, if that's what you mean, but he is presenting the mix |

I'm not un-educated, but I can see how you are confused...I will explain.. and with a little smart googling on my part.
I was correct on the date of the particular mix in question.. there are two versions floating around the internet. There is a version dubbed the "Tongless" mix.. Where Pete does not interupt the EM for station callsign's:
This is in fact the version I have, it is fantastic!

| abbreviated/summarized, 'Tongless' simply means; you dont hear Pete Tong (/Tong's voice). he's the original/official announcer of EM's ... as explained |Thrax| |

| Saw a lot of great replies about this mix and gave it a shot. Honestly, this mix didn't do a thing for me. The intro track was nice, I enjoyed the strings a lot. The rest of the mix sounded too soft, with little edge. Each track utilizes some sort of retro-sounding strings or pads, a housy bassline, and a couple of softer synths that play something along the lines of chimes, synth piano, or an organ-like instrument. I like hearing these tracks in a more varied set where they sound fresh compared to their different neighbors in the mix - i.e. when mixed in with some trance or harder tech tracks. But going from one of these right next into the other was too unexciting to my ear. I also noticed a lack of strong melodic hooks in most the tracks (not all). I'm not a real house fan, but I do enjoy good sets such as Eric Prydz' Cafe del Mar set - but that's because every track he dropped had a strong harmonic foundation, albeit they all recycled more or less the same beat. This set, however, didn't offer that either as most of the tracks sort of played around with somewhat random chords, focusing on intricate effects/beats/rhythmic tricks rather than intricate melodies. Danny still seems to be quite the crowd pleaser, so I guess whatever he does works for masses of people. Just not me - that's my 2c. |

wttttffffffff
IMO the tracks didn't sound similar at all. Of course they're gonna have some of the same elements, being that of the same genre (house for most), but each had it's own distinct sound. I think you might be saying this because the flow and mixing is stupendous therefore resembling one track.
EVERY track had a melodic hook in it, some just don't come out and scream at you. Did you actually LISTEN to the set as a whole or just flip through the tracks?
To each his own I guess... |

| Just back from seeing danny last night in tripod here in dublin. Was looking forward to seeing him for so long and after his essential mix i was even more enthusiastic and i have to say that he did not disappoint me one bit. Fantastic set with a lot of the stuff from the EM, really had a great night. He is a man on top of his game right now and i honestly couldnt name any other dj who is better than him at this moment in time. Class act |
