Nah. I'm not talking about laws anymore - forget that.

I'm talking about passing judgment on people's lifestyles. And that is only a few steps away from public enforcement of that judgment. I place both of these in the same category.

What is markedly different from these, is not passing judgment on anyone's lifestyle. But here we have evidence that even in democratic America that is not happening. Senior officials feel at liberty to pass such judgment.

Dopey, please edit your post because it clutters space and is completely irrelevant. Nobody's talking about laws - and I want people to see my latest post easily.

completely wrong. in western nations you can pass judgment all you want and it means very little. that is the essence of free speech. :D only in dictatorial states do you have to worry about individual judgment becoming enforced. that is the whole basis of democracy, a load of people have to agree on a law, not just one influential person.

You know it's fun to bring this thread back up every time I find something that proves my point ;)

What do you think of this:

quote:

In Utah, a new law requires school principals to police every student organization to ensure that there's no discussion of "human sexuality" (though experts believe the topic may still come up among teenage students).

Middle East? What Middle East?

and one more thing: in Turkey and Lebanon, two Middle Eastern countries, beaches are topless. It's not just European tourists who go topless there, it's ethnic Turks and Lebanese. This is an incredibly radical concept for the "they-hate-our-freedoms" USofA to grasp  :stongue:

No, dude. You missed out the point. Its, you, stop posting on how the US is backwards. Because it isn't. you haven't been outside the country and that is why you need to quit posting crap just because you read it online doesn't mean . You haven't been anywhere and you won't know how a country is until you have been there.

I forgot who said it but here is a quote for you to remember, next time dumbass:
"don't tell me what you've read tell me where you've been and who you have talked too."

This is just a Mormon way of covering their asses when it comes to Mormon parents allowing kids to join student organizations. Are there even student organizations in Russia, who are they funded by? Abramovich? Mormons are very conservative, and if you are not Mormon, chances are, you don't live in Utah.

And what policing powers do principals have? DO you think kids will go to jail if they decide to disobey this initiative? Or will they just get kicked out of the Mormon school? If they do get kicked out of a public school for this, which they won't, the case will go to the courts who will be forced to repeal the law. This is how democracy works, it takes time. People have to file complaints, go before a judge, etc. If it is a new law, it really means nothing until it is challenged in court, so shut your ignorant mouth.

There are also cults in the US who rape little girls, yet without proof nothing can be done and some of these cults are still functional. I suppose all Americans are pedophilic rapers then too? Everything you post is debunked as soon as anyone has the patience to actually check out wtf you are talking about, why do you even try? Just to make America look bad? What are you trying to prove? That the states are worse than the middle east? Good luck.

It's not about Mormon schools, it's about schools in Utah in general, the law applies to them too... and at least as of now the law still stands, otherwise ppl wouldn't be writing about it...

Most people in the US are first generation or second. So it wouldn't have mattered.

Just because a law is passed does not mean it will stand. Many lawmakers in Utah are very conservative, they stand no chance on a federal level.

NY Times

quote:
Next month, a 17-page law will take effect governing just about every nuance of public school extracurricular clubs, from kindergarten jump rope to high school drama. How groups can form, what they can discuss in their meetings, who can join, and what a principal must do if rules are violated are addressed.

But the school clubs law, signed last week by Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr., was not really intended to rein in the rowdies down at the audio-visual club, some lawmakers said. The real target was homosexuality.

“This is all about gay-straight alliance clubs, and anybody who tells you different is lying,” said State Senator Scott D. McCoy, Democrat from Salt Lake City, who voted against the law.

So what they are doing is banning all sexuality talk in all clubs because they would not be able to single out this one gay/straight club and get away with it.

There is no way of knowing how the courts will deal with this law since it has NOT TAKEN AFFECT YET! As soon as someone is reprimanded for disobeying this initiative, there will be a formal complaint and a court case, then a judge will decide if the law is constitutional. If the judge rules against the plaintiff, an appeal can be made to a higher court, and so on until it could reach the supreme court.

I am willing to bet this law will not stand on the basis of free speech, although Utah is a very backwards state so it would not surprise me if it does.

What you are doing is basing a whole country on one minute population study. If this law stands, and people want their kids to talk about sexuality in school clubs, they have the freedom to move to other states. Can a woman move from Zanjan to Tehran and not be treated like ?

You still have no argument until this law has been challenged in the courts, so again, kindly STFU.

Who do you think goes to public schools in Utah? Most people in Utah are Mormon.
