Please post tracks in the PROMOTION forum

We usually seem to get one or two of these every few weeks but lately there's been a huge upswing in the number of people posting tracks/samples asking for feedback. I'm starting to think it might be a chain reaction - one person sees the other 3 or 4 threads and says "hey, I should post mine here too".
I suppose it's not a "rule" per se, but it's in the FAQ guys - you're much better off posting these things in the Music Producers Promotion forum. You'll get more listens and more feedback there than here.
Note that I'm not talking about 10-second clips with specific questions. I think there were a few threads on "would this melody work for a track" or "how can I fill up more space with this kick" - those are specific questions about production and wouldn't make sense to post elsewhere. I promise I'm not knocking you guys. What I'm talking about is the spurt of "Here is my/our track, please post feedback" threads, all of which have received between zero and maybe three replies. That's a sign - and I'm not pulling any punches here - it's a sign that nobody cares. :p
Of course you don't have to do this - as I mentioned, there's no rule. Just know that, based on my experience in this forum (which goes back a fair way), any requests for general feedback in this area are likely to get ignored by most members. If you have a specific question like the ones above, by all means ask it, but if you want reviews, I suggest you use the promotion forum.
Thanks! |

Yes. ;)
It was just this issue and the thread naming one. I was going to post them at the same time, but I actually put this one off for about a week to give people some time to catch their breath. :p
It's just a polite request and a friendly suggestion. I don't think I was rude here and I'm only posting for the benefit of the people looking for feedback (am I wrong, do those threads ever get many responses here?). |

I sorta agree, but I think the promotion forum is more for finished products. If I have an incomplete track I want some tips on the production, I will post here because it seems best fit.
Maybe we should say only incomplete works here? |

I agree with this, the promotion forum is best suited for completed tracks, and comment on the track itself opposed to how can i make this lead like this sort of stuff. |

not really you will find that alot of people post up what their currently working on in the promotion section to see where they can take it next. i do this also. diginut is right it is quite annoying people posting tracks in here. |

but you're not allowed to vote because you are '1010101010101010101010101'.
I'm supreme, so I can't vote either since I'm not a senior anymore :( |

Hahaha, funny comments.
It doesn't really annoy me that people post tracks, complete or incomplete. It's just that listening to a track and writing a detailed review, whether it's complete or incomplete, is a whole friggin' commitment.
When I'm ready to do that kind of stuff, I go to the promotion forum. In here, I only have enough patience to spend maybe 10 minutes on a question, unless it's a really interesting/tricky one that I think would also benefit me personally by figuring out how to answer.
It's not really about what state the track is in. Some of you who've posted tracks are a little bit upset, I can see, but (sorry for the cliché here) it's not you, it's us. It's not that you've committed some kind of faux pas by posting it, or broken some unwritten rule, it's just that most of us, when we're participating in this particular forum, aren't in the mood for that.
The analogy is someone asking me on MSN how to spell some word, or to give them a synonym, vs. asking me to edit an essay they wrote. There's such a huge time and effort gap between those two, and in the case of the latter you have to be a little more subtle about it. When you post in the promotion you say, listen up guys, I'm offering you something you might like, for free, I don't expect anything in return but if you're feeling particularly generous you might submit some comments, or even better, a review. It's really altogether different from saying hey, I want you to go through my work and give me some tips on how to improve.
Either way you're asking people for a favour, but if you post in the promotion forum, it's sort of like you're doing them a favour first by providing a free tune (or sample) for people who are bored or looking for new material. That's why you're more likely to get a response, not because the track is any more polished or complete. |
