is the ing war over filling up every last inch of headroom and space in a mix. jesus christ has so much percussion and whitenoise everyone tries to have no open space in their mix what so ever. ppl insist on filling every little inch of dead space up with shakers and crap! i dunno... just sounds too busy to me now days not enough atmosphere. i miss the simpler more minimal trance days. its really harder to make trance sound good with less...
 |
AGREED!!!
more to that I can say that this willing to fill up 101% of headroom makes me feel like one is trying to make it sound more "progressive" opposing to "ordinary" trance/house etc. which I personally find sad because for me music has gone way down qualitywise (corpared to 2003 and earlier) |

| ^ Blah. Proressive has nothing to do with this. If anything, progressive is usually less filled, because there are no supersaw leads taking headroom. Listen to some James Holden for example. |

what James Holden do you mean my friend? The one before 2004 or after cause those are completely different people:haha:
im not talking about lead or supersaws. im talking about that cheap "reverb everything & gate the vocals" stuff i.e. the ASOT crew... only a few guys still have their own kind of style... hang on boys! :D |

They took out the supersaws so they'd have more room for shakers...
And some other stuff, too. |

You and I both know it's really just about the shakers. |

| Percussion instruments is the sh*t. Just how boring would any trance track be without 'em? They'd just sound the same as everything else. |

are you suggesting that trance is the only genre to use percussion? because if that is the case, i suggest you listen to some latin music. trance only wishes it could use percussion like that. |

| ive heard a lot of tracks which quite surely borrowed latino percussion. |

His post doesn't suggest that at all. |
