Film Claim: Jesus' Body Found

Efforts to discredit Jesus' resurrection continue

WASHINGTON, Feb. 23 /Christian Newswire/ -- A liberal website out of Jerusalem, Israel is reporting that a documentary film to be aired this week will prove the actual burial site for Jesus Christ and his family has been found. The filmmakers, including James Cameron of Titanic fame, claim they will display the coffins of Jesus and his mother Mary at a New York news conference on Monday.

The implications are clear: According the filmmakers, Jesus did not rise from the grave.

In response to the announced news conference, National Clergy Council president, the Reverend Rob Schenck (pronounced SHANK) said:

“This kind of sensationalism has been tried before. Only five years ago no less of a prestigious organization than Biblical Archeological Review Journal claimed it had the coffin of James, the brother of Jesus. It was later determined to be a hoax.

“These filmmakers, who have an obvious bias against Christianity, say the evidence in this case rests on the names inscribed on the coffins and DNA testing. First, the names Jesus, Mary, Joseph and the others they will cite, were some of the most common for that region at that time. Second, there are no known descendants of Mary alive today, so what does DNA have to do with it?

“Thinking people should take this announcement with a grain of salt.”

Rev. Schenck is also chairman of the Committee on Church and Society for the Evangelical Church Alliance, America’s oldest association of evangelical clergy. The National Clergy Council is based in Washington, DC, and represents conservative church leaders from all Christian traditions.

Once again its double standard time. Something like this about Islam and oh man there would be blood in the streets. Western Media would be hung out to dry by death threats from some mohamed thingymabod and it would of been all of the US's fault.
but lets see, this is the christian religion, so we all know that a few boycots here and there.... A few letters of protest and all is forgotten. Now who is the religion of peace now??

Sure, there's plenty of problems in both and for a whole lot of complicated reasons. However on a global sense when was the last time either went off on a bender halfway across the world in the name of religion?
That's more or less the hobby of lunatic christians and muslims :)

So with the exception of Renegade, tathi, Occ, and maybe I'm forgeting a few others, are there any atheists here who don't make ignorant and condescending generalizations about theists, or implicity making them by generalizing fringe fanatic and extremist views that often contradict religious teaching to all perspectives and interpretations? Do you really enjoy putting words in people's mouth that much? It's kind of like calling someone a Nazi just because they're German or any other form of defamation. Did it ever occur to some/any of you that individuals are different, even theists? Such a selfrighteous and arrogant attitude, more often than not, based on minimal to zero knowledge and understanding of (a specific) religion(s) is kind of ironic :conf:. You guys do realize that your view/interpretation, even if it is based on thorough research, isn't the only one on any particular religion right? How many religions have any of you guys studied anyways other than the ones you're loosely connected to? I doubt it's more than one, and most of you probably didn't even read through the entire text for it. Does that give you any idea about how your generalizations reflect on you, especially to some one who's actually studied one or more in a fair bit of detail? And if you're going to base your view on the actions of some so called followers, regardless of number and time period, that's a view on them not religion X itself. Let me give you guys an analogy. How many of you have read the communist manifesto or other marxist socialist type theory? I'm guessing at least some of you have. Did the Soviet Union bear any resemblance to the theory and doctrine? No, not really. Now try to think about that next time you feel like slandering individuals or collective groups with your broad generalizations. That's probably not going to happen, but at least I said it. So if I find it irritating, you'll know why. And there's plenty of it here, I just keep my mouth shut majority of the time since it's kind of pointless talking about it or explaining it to most people. Such an oppinionated attitude usually comes across as pretty arrogant to say the least. Plus, if people were more civil and less narrow minded, I wouldn't have to say anything in the first place. See, I respect people like Renegade as he's actually studied scripture in a fair bit of detail and has his own take on it, that's fine. He doesn't club people on the head his views all the time, and neigther is he condesending and rude with broad generalizations. So even though his veiws/interpretation is contrary to mine in many ways not to mention they're based on entirely different religious texts of different religions, I respect his views since he actually bases them on study and research as opposed to some irrelevant nonsense. I guess most people are obtuse and imperseptive jerks regardless of their beliefs (or lack of).

and another thing, none of those religions are even original.

sheesh like a mesican can't read Gilgamesh and see that they stole that from story.... :whip:

Abram left Sumeria ( me thinks) to begin his journey that ended in Israel. He became accepted as the ancestor of the Hebrews, the Christians and the Muslims. It does not take the mentality of a 9year old to see all of the "borrowing" from the world described in Gilgamesh that was used in the story of Abraham or any other selections of the First Few Books of the bible.

And I won't even bring up the story of the flood or even creation. Also stolen from rehashed myths.

Ah they're not all bad, it's just the lunatic fringe which starts the trouble, rest of the moderate majority just end up in the crap by default when their brethren drag them into it and they all get painted with the same mud.
Course, after being clubbed over the head, shot at and generally abused as part of the crap they got dragged into by their lunatic mates, we end up with the polarity we see in society today between religions, rather than any kind of tolerance.
Bit like an old hillbilly-feud :haha:
"Dang heathen bastids shot mah cousin!"
Few generations of that and basically you can kiss any kind of reconciliation out the door as now they've gone and made it all personal.

Course, they'll run out of heathens to shoot after awhile and we get the joys of secular warfare as the guys who think the invisible guy in the sky has a tail and the other guys who think he doesn't have a tail get shirty with one another.
Protestants vs Catholics, Sunni vs Shia, same old reasons, same pointless death and injury. :(
