A Wiki for the TA Production forum (pg. 2)

To be honest, Wikis make my skin crawl. I think they can work when you have a user base that's either very small (like internal to a small/medium-sized business) or tremendously large (Wikipedia), but you start to run into problems with mid-sized bases because there are enough trolls to abuse it, but not quite enough people to guarantee that someone will notice the abuse in a short time and care enough to do something about it (hence Greg's comment about mods/QC, but if the Wiki starts getting large then you need a whole army of them).

If you decide to go through with it anyway then I will still contribute to it and I'll even help out with the development if you want (assuming it's ASP.NET - I don't do LAMP). I'm just being candid when I say that I don't think it's that hot an idea. I've seen how these things often work out in practice and the results can be disappointing. Regardless, good luck, and in spite of my comments, don't hesitate to ask me for any help or contributions.

P.S. ZxZDeViLZxZ: I've never heard of a hosting facility that doesn't charge for bandwidth. Almost every single provider uses the same 95th percentile rules. Where did you find one that doesn't?

Lets settle on hosting then, upload, and off we go with the sysops. Although I kind of wish they were Jedops. That would have send them trolls one heck of a message.

Vizay, ZxZDeViLZxZ !!!! :D I guess it’s up to you ;)

There are also free offers like 110mb.com (PHP, Apache, MySQL, 2000mb, 100GB bandwidth, domain hosting, pretty much my Gmail account) where there are existing MediaWikis, which is a good sign. This is the best one I could find with respect to the numbers and compatibility. The problem with 110mb.com: the registration is closed for the next two days (no agreement to read, no setup etc.), and no chance of an insider admin. What would be your concerns with such a host?

Spam and misinformation isn’t a problem these days: http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wiki_Spam
Once there’s significant growth of contribution, even when the ‘Recent changes’ becomes unmanageable, there is further filtration that’s available. I also hope that there will be enough enthusiasm for the database that there will always be someone moderating areas of interest, validating information, freezing tutorials, and preventing He-Man mishaps. If it takes off with content, the lesser is the evidence of ill tempering, if not, then size will play an advantage. But lets wait and see.

This brings up the other issue of size: traffic. Should it be judged by the stats of this sub-forum? The sound clips, presets, screenshots, from comments and tutorials wouldn’t pose a problem, seeing how they reach their limit?

this is a super fabulous idea :)

I really think we should do a DJ Booth/Production Studio Combo. Makes a lot of sense considering many producers are djs and vice versa as well as the fact DJing is becoming more and more a "live" affair and many production techniques can be useful for people getting into that sort of thing.

Take care of the donations box while at it? :)

What about a wiki.tranceaddict.com sub-domain redirect? wikit.tranceaddict.com makes me giggle, so I'd vote for that.
ZxZDeViLZxZ
dont need donation box for hosting free of charge by me. will make me feel good about being a person or something.... maybe its the fact that the server gets paid for no matter what lol

GREAT idea.

Unfortunately, there is a lot of personal opinion and taste in this 'science', but we could definitely get many of the static variables down for people to enjoy.
