A Wiki for the TA Production forum

Recently, I have been suffering through the 5 stages of grief for every thread that has gone beyond, carrying with it all the bright wisdom past the first page. I’m talking about the threads that have some smart people having some smart things to say, a good read. With a Wiki page built specifically for the TA production forum, I would be able to grab that information, recompile it into sophisticated language (not that it usually isn't) and edit it into the original article, citing the thread and the message as a source. That there's more to reverb, for instance, than a favorite slap-on preset can be presented at a glance. If you’ve ever been to Wikipedia, then you know how the WikiT (hehe) can contribute to the FAQ with regards to external sources, and how it would be able to endlessly receive the newly posted and searched-for information on anything and everything, on broad subjects, to technical and specific articles. Again, the content has to be particular to TA producers.

I want to know of the prospect of having such a page here in the production forum, and if it can be broadened to other trance communities.

Hosting should be a piece of cake, the question is where.
www.mediawiki.org/
Vizay
that's the best idea I've seen for very long in theese forums.

I might be able to supply hosting for it but it depends on how large the database will end up being?

if I fix it I can fix a domain name like tawiki.com or edmproduction.com or something even better (as long as the domain is not busy already).
I work at a quite big webhostingcompany so it would be a piece of cake for me to fix it up in just a few days :)
cybernetica
awesome, revolutionary idea.

Any idea how much traffic such a site could cause?
Vizay
so the interest in this seems so so, at least so far.
No one else that has input, suggestions or ideas about this?

You know its going to happen.

Hehe,

So I've read around and there's a lot of gumph. Can anyone explain this in a nutshell?

Is it like installing wikipedia on your own server but you can do what you want with it e.g. delete about flowers and just keep audio related stuff. Then add links to TA threads about reverb from the wiki reverb article?

If that's the case can't you just set up a folder on your hard drive with links to your favourite threads? I'm not trying to be negative, just a bit unclear still on how this works?

Sounds great but it would probably need it's own mod for quality control and good hosting. Perhaps we could do this in correlation with the DJ Booth. There is a lot of great info in there as well.

Possibly donations? I don't know.

I'll ask Swamper about it as well :)

I can fix hosting at crystone.com for around 20$/year :) (I work there so it'll be easy to admin anything I want to admin basicly)

You download and install (on your webserver) the Wiki application, which as far as I know is PHP/Mysql based. There will be no data in your new "wiki".

From there you add content, determine who can moderate the content, etc.

Nice one. Yeah I'm seeing the potential, hope it works out.
