Vibrasphere - Archipelago Remixed
Releasedate: March
Last years number one trance was neither from UK, Holland or Germany. It was from Sweden. Archipelago was an amazing album as it melted different styles together and made it sound astonishing. The album apealed to all styles of DJs such as downtempo djs, progressive trance djs, epic trance djs. psytrance djs etc.
Such an awesome album deservers a remix album. But don't expect your favourite Vibrasphere tunes being raped by some tired ex producer. Vibrasphere have by them selve chosen some of their favourite acts to produce each remix. Or as they put it themselves:
"From the beginning of this project we’ve had in mind to create an album of a very broad musical
spectrum to reflect what kinds of music inspires us … on the dancefloor, chilling at home, riding the
bike to work – you name it! From floating chill via minimal, deep & progressive trance to kicking trance
at the other end of the rainbow – the artists have delivered precisely what we had in mind and as such
we are equally proud to now deliver this mother of a musical journey to you! enjoy!!"
It's really an interesting list of remixers. For example Omnimotions remix of Tierra Azul adds a complete new song by Krister Linder. And the rest follows. Atmos returns for his trademark deep proggy house sound. This is one of the hottest albums released this year. No doubt about that.
track listing:
1. tierra azul (Omnimotion feat Krister Linder rmx)

Ofcourse it isn't. The ones who say that knows about nothing else than electro/minimal and asot trance.
But there are alot of houseish influences on this remix album.
This remix album is sweet but i think i like the original work better.
More trance for me :happy2: |

Trancehead :toothless
You're right though - those influences are noticable - I personally think they work out well though - the Fiord mix sound very good, makes me even more curious to hear those guys' future Fiord/Antix work :toocool: |

I was looking forward to this but after listening to the (very long) "samples" i must say i'm slightly disappointed, perhaps my expectations were too high. However some of the tracks are really nice and some might grow on me after a few more listens in proper quality once.
My thoughts:
1. tierra azul (Omnimotion feat Krister Linder rmx)
Sounds really good, Omnimotions dubby, warm and stripped down sound is there. An throwing in vocals is a cool thing to do. Makes me wanna listen to his latest album.
2. reservoir (Fiord rmx)
Not bad, but not amazing either, the atmospheric breakdown part is great. Also i probably never would have guessed this was a remix of Reservoir if i wasn't told so. Their first Antix remix was much better.
3. sweet september (Perfect Stranger rmx)
A solid remix with a good drive, sounds good, but i'll have to listen to it a few more times.
4. landmark (Allaby rmx)
Not bad, but i can't help thinking of it as a lesser version of the original.
5. morning breeze (Atmos rmx)
One of the highlights. The bassline and the way it comes in on its own is brutal. The flowing melody line sounds good brought down an octave and the whole track flows well brought down to this lower Atmos tempo. ;)
6. sudden comfort (Decoy rmx)
Good, but it sounds like a good imitation of Vibrasphere rather than a remix. Unoriginal.
7. baltic resonance (Solar Fields rmx)
Propably the best track. Solar Fields brings us something new with this remix. I'm really excited about his upcoming trance stuff on Ultimae Records.
8. seven days to daylight (Unai rmx)
At first i thought "what is this?" but then it turned out to be really good. It sounds almost like if it's a completely separate house track that happaned to fit well with the little melodic elements of the original Seven days. Groovy.
9. late winter storms (Tobias Lilja rmx)
A little more stripped down with less heavy beat and drums. Very enjoyable. |

Just had a listen because someone told me to :p
Really like the album, almost all tracks and that doesn't happen often.
One thing though, could be me but Seven Days To Daylight (Unai Remix) at first listen sounded too familiar: after the initial build all starts to sound really similar to Lostep - Burma. I mean that stab, and after that those monk-esque chants. At the breakdown all fades out and Unai uses Vibrapshere's original melody.
If you know Burma well, you should notice it. Bit of a shame, but all in all, great remix album.

| A lot of this sounds really good and Im a huge fan of the original. I really dig the remix of Baltic Resonance and Morning Breeze. Kinda disappointed in the remix of 7 Days to Daylight. I thought the original was the best song on the album. It has such a deep and dark atmospheric effect. The remix sounds too housy for my liking and the beat is just weak. |
